Question about Lite On DVD & Blu-Ray Players

9 Answers

I just bought an external 20x Lightscribe SuperAllWrite DVD recorder. It writes DVD's all the way sometimes and most of the time it writes the DVD part way then gets an error. Writing the lightscribe label works part way sometimes and most of the time not at all. The Nero 7 essentials won't install. I'm using a netbook Acer Aspire One.

My internal lightscribe works fine on my other computer with the same software.

Tried recommendation. Still didn't work. Sent an e:mail to liteonit.com. Maybe they will help me since it is a liteon product.

I've never seen the power save suggestion until now. It makes a lot a sense. I will try it and let you know.

  • SnowDog98 Dec 03, 2008

I shut down all the power save modes in everything I could find and it still doesn't work. It will go part way thru and shut down when writing disks and lightscribe burning. That's why the power save mode made sense. It was like the hard disk was shutting down before it could finish the operation. Can you give me any other suggestions or are we done.

  • SnowDog98 Dec 03, 2008

I've tried everything suggested. Nothing worked.

  • SnowDog98 Dec 03, 2008

I nvever got Nero-7 installed; never used it. Wouldn't burn dvd. Wouldn't label with LightScribe. Burns both part way then stops.

  • SnowDog98 Dec 04, 2008

None of your suggestions have worked so far. Any more suggestions? The internal dvd drive in the desktop pc burns fine and burns the lightscribe image fine every time I use it. Hardware is useless if you can't depend on it everytime. The external liteon drive reads fine both doesn't finish writing a dvd or burning a lightscribe image on my netbook. The extenal drive also didn't work when I tried it on the above mentioned desktop Pc.

 The DVD stops writing halfway....
did you try writting on the DVD small file and see if they are written properly... If they are then there is no problem with your installation and also  no problem with the software you are using.
the only problem with the external drive might be the interfacing  unit as someone mentioned  the unit is either getting heated up. vary quickly or the interface is not secure enough to manage the motion of the  DVD (it is spinning inside at a fast rate and so the unit is vibrating)
so eitherway you will hae to open up your unit and see inside.
pls post back  about the first part (small files are being written or not)

Since you say you are using dvd-r dvd's, try use dvd-rw dvd's and try burning to see if it works because you might need a re-write-able dvd instead of a recordable dvd to work with the burner.
Since you say that the lightscribe labeler on works sometimes, try un-installing any software and re-installing it and see if it works then.

Hi,

The problem is with your Nero-7, please uninstall it and go back to Nero-6, your problems will be solved.
With version 6 you can burn dvds and play and have a Firefox open with a few tabs. I could never do that with version 7.

Good luck

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The favorable action would be seek warranty replacement being new. If for some reason, warranty would not be availed, then it would be suggested that the traverse guide pin where the lens carriage move along be cleaned and re-lubricated. It would not be a lens read error. But of course, this would mean that the unit has to be opened up.

As to the Nero installation, try re-installing with the anitvirus and anti-malware temporarily disabled.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

You have more than one problem in there.
Test the DVD on a different computer, one with a good Windows OS installation. IF the unit works fine, as I think, it means that the only troubles are with Windows.

You can try a system restore or using software like the norton, if you have norton utilities, but to fix this kind of problems is often necessary to reinstall windows.

If the DVD is new, it read correctly, and does not write, this is because of the unit limitations and for the type of media used.

If this is the Lite -on , the unit supports the following formats (or is supposed to ):

    20x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R Read, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, 48x24x CD-R/RW, Black, SATA

This DVD is supposed to read both +R and -R, however, being a DVD -R -RW, and not a real double layer , it will always have trouble with DVD +, particularly if they are not good brand ones.

Try using DVD-R if you want to keep this unit.

If the unit is not new, use a Dvd Lens Cleaner , this will increase reading /writing capabilities by cleaning the lens.

If this does not help you may consider to get a replacement with a different model.

This unit is not faulty, and the problems in writing DVD are caused by:

    Unit limitation/Support used.

Windows and the PC used is slow and has problem (if it did not install Nero, Windows is bad).

    Solutions:

To fix Windows you can only reinstall it.

On the DVDs used, Get good brand -R DVD s and try .

Your 20x Superallwrite ... is already outdated.

If I was in your shoues I would return the unit and buy a double layer model, like this ones (chose ones with dual layer).

You did not try everything Try DVD -R and contact the sellerto replace the model with a dual layer.

You did not do any of the above,

I report my last comment that costed me 15 minutes of my time, wasted on this problem:

Is the recorder a + or - drive or is it a combo +/- drive? Be sure your media matches and I find that even in combo drives that + media seems to work better

Make sure that the laptop(s) are not going into power saving mode, even if plugged in. Possibly change the power features to desktop and set all saving features (even screen) saver to none and see what happens then.

Have you tried doing a system restore to a date prior to the initial install of this new burner?

Did I misunderstand but did you say @ one point you had it work on a computer?

Try setting the recording speed to the slowest it will allow.

You will need to finalize the discs on the Philips. I know the manual says that +r may auto-finalize, but I found that finalization sometimes fails on the first attempt. Go into the menu for the Philips, and select the Edit Disc -> Finalize option. Once finalized, your disc should play in other players.

You need to go into the set up menu and select recording options. On the recording options menu, scroll down to dubbing options. On the dubbing options menu select either VCR to DVD or DVD to VCR.
Recording and Dubbing are not the exactly the same thing. You use the record buttons to record TV directly to VCR/DVD you use the dubbing buttons and set up to record DVD to VCR or VCR to DVD.
Hope this helps.

Burn your DVDs at tow positions slower than what the system and discs say. It sounds as if there is a huge amount of error being introduced during the write process. If your DVD recorder can still access CD's the goto the following link and select your DVD recorder from the drop down list under audio/video and download the firmware file.

http://www.liteonit.eu/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=178

Write the file contained in the zip file to a CD and insert it into your DVD recorder. Follow the instructions in the user manual to complete the firmware update.

This should solve your problem.
