My HP LasserJet 4L printer does not go on. What could be the ptoblem? No sound, lights, nothing. Cables are good.

Yes, I had this exact same problem!! My printer would not come on simply after coming back from a two week vacation and when I switched on the surge protector, nothing happened. I found that the switching transistor in the switch mode power supply section of the DC Controller board failed!! (Q201) If your Laserjet 4L is as old as mine, remember that the switch mode power supply is always on standby, even when the printer is in " Intelligent Off" mode. It has to be ready for a print job at anytime and therefore the power supply really is always working. Therefore the switchmode power supply is almost always the place to look for a dead printer!! This field effect transistor (FET) ,(Q201)is mounted to a heatsink and handles various amount of current up to 4 amps, and can get very hot. So, in the many years since these printers were made, it has switched on and off many times, and dealt a lot of thermal stress. I searched the web for the replacement 2SK1351 transistor, and found that MCM had it for $8.88, but is currently out of stock. I ended up ordering it from, which is in the UK, for 5.47 plus about 6.50 shipping. I didn't mind waiting a few days for it to arrive. I hope that this helps!!!

Wont display anything, green light on power button keeps flashing

The flashing light on the Dell E173 series indicates a failure in the power supply board. This series has several versions on the board so you will need to know the exact model, it is listed on the label at the bottom of the back cover. The versions are E173FPc, E173FPb and E173FPf. We have repair instructions posted on our web site at: that cover each version on the unit. The repairs will require replacing a few pars that will need to be soldered.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Dell E173fp monitor went black and green LED light on power button is blinking. It will not reset.

hughiii, Read page 16 of my fixya profile. There is a response to another E173FP you should read and then do more reading about other brands of monitors with same symptom. Will you be doing the tear-down and inspecting the power supply? After you have done the research (reading) and seen some videos on YOUTUBE, get back here on fixya and let us know what you have decided to do. 12fixlouie

10-30-2007, 07:54 PM I have the same monitor and it had the same problem, I got it for $10 at a garage sale because they "didnt know if it worked or not" BS, they knew it was broke. But i accepted the challenge. There are four transistors on the power supply board detailed as Q759, Q760, Q739 and Q740. It is usually just two that go bad on these monitors, but instead of hassling with testing all four, I would recommend just replacing all four. Here are some replacement part numbers. I used NTE2524, same as NTE2525, and paid about $1.25 each.
and here are Sanyo parts (hard to obtain):
2sc5707 C5707

The transistors are rated at 60v 20w.

Just wanted to share my success story. Hope this info helps someone. I found my info on some other forums that i can't find right now.

I have A "Dell" E152FPc, and I have found an open transistor (Q201) on the Power Supply Board. My monitor comes on nice and bright for approximately 2 seconds, then goes dark; the power LED is steady. The voltage to the PWM IC is waky.
Before you try any hardware troubleshooting go to your control panel and turn off any power management options.

BC 200 XLT

It is Q201 on the front micom board.
Read about it here or search google for the word Q201 and BC200xlt

Any surface mount pnp transistor will work. Q202 may have a B6 on the top of it.

I had to change it on mine.

Your inverter power supply has gone bad. You will need to replace the whole board or replace the the 2sc5707 transistors in the inverter area. Check out this link for installation videos and how to for that model
They also sell the whole board as well as repair kits
