I am from the Caribbean Island of St.Kitts and I was on holiday in London, England in August 2006 and I bought this camera. It worked wonderfully and I took plenty pictures. I had no problems at all with it until now. When the camera was turned on there was a sound coming from the lens area. The lens are open and will not close. On the screen there is the warning display "focus error." Can I get a solution to fixing this problem
My aunt bought a Fuji Cam A500 or 400. It had a zoom error and she got it fixed where she bought it. then, after a month, it had the same problem again. but my aunt hasn't brought it to its dealer yet.

When the camera was turned on, it said focus error and the lens makes a noise and does not go back inside the camera anymore.
After the basics (cleaning the lens, replacing the batteries, etc.), try dropping the camera on a carpeted area from about 2-3 feet. It worked for my Fuji A500 and 90% of the responders on the link.Everything on the web said it would cost ~$100 to fix.I was in the process of researching new cameras to buy and had nothing to lose by dropping it on the floor.
The error may be caused by debris in the zoom mechanism preventing it from working.Dropping the camera loosens the debris and voila!

I also have this problem. It is obviously the cog inside that is stripped but I am planning on just going to get a new one, since it was a gift. I like the camera otherwise though...
