Since your output is coaxial (rca) you should be able to find an input for coaxial that will work on your surround the setting on your surround will be either coaxial or digital input,
hope this helps
it would help if you said what kind and model of surround you have

Trying to connect a sony home theatre system so that the akai television plays through the home teatre speakers. I used an hdmi cable, but the tv still only plays threough the tv.

The HDMI jacks on the TV are HDMI in. Thus to get the theater system to play the sound, you use the HDMI out from your set top box to the HDMI in of the Sony theater system and then the HDMI out of the theater system to the TV. (Connecting the HDMI in of the TV to the HDMI in of the home theater system will not work.)

If you are watching OTA TV or a direct coax cable connection, you need to hook up the TV audio out to the home theater system audio in to use these speakers with the TV. Then you probably need to set the TV to use the external speakers. This will probably be in the Menu under Audio. (Toggle external speakers on/off)

The Akai LCT2785TA has RCA audio out (1/4" red and white jacks). If your home theater system has RCA audio in, just get a patch cable (MM ends on each side of the cable). If your home theater system only has digital audio inputs, you will need a converter. http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/audio-converters-extenders/analog-to-digital-digital-to-analog/1t-ap-216/prod1TAP216.html is a link to one appropriate converter.

I hope this helps.

There is a website that provides an Opticle Audio to Digital SPIF converter. I have listed it in the link for you below. The item also apears to be quite inexspensive, so it would be worth looking into.

Optical to SPDIF

I would be interested in knowing how well this works for you.

How do you hook up a home theater system without an out put

Hi, on this TV there is a SPDIF port that they say to hook-up to your home theater system. Depending on your amp receiver if it has an spdif port then thats the way to go. if not then you could always run audio cables from your cable/satellite box to your amp receiver, and the same for your dvd player and any other device. Hope i was of some help : )

I have a 37 WLT 68 TV, is it possible to connect

Strictly speaking, no. Your TV has both a line-level audio output, via RCA cables, and a SPDIF (digital audio output) connector (and a headphone jack). Any of these will output a low-level signal into an stereo amplifier or home theater AV receiver. The speakers would be attached to that separate amplifier unit.

Hi there,

You need to select the source of your home theater system. Press <SOURCE> on the home theater remote to switch between DVD, TUNER, and LINE modes. Select LINE, then you should now hear audio from your TV, Please make sure that your TV is not muted, just increase the volume until you hear audio on home theater. Also increase the volume of your home theater.

The only audio out jack on your TV is for the headphone on the left side of the TV. You need to purchase a 3.5 mm to RCA audio cable, connect the 3.5mm jack to the left side of your TV and the 2 RCA audio cable ends to the audio in of your Home Theater and then select AUX 1 or AUX 2 on the home theater depending on which jacks you plugged into.
