Question about Delphi Roady2 SA10085 XM Radio Receiver with Car Kit

Power Requirement for Delphi Roady 2 XM Radio

I gave a Delphi Roady 2 XM Radio to someone as a gift. The complete car kit was included. The cigarette plug that came in the car kit reduces the auto's 12 volt DC down to 6 v DC. I want to also give a AC to DC converter to allow the radio to be used in home. The Roady 2 manual states the radio 's operating voltage is 6v DC at 600 mA average. I have sourced a AC to DC converter , with a 1300mA rating. The existing cigarette plug that came in the car kit will be used to operate the radio. I do not want to OVERPOWER the radio and possibly damage it. Will it be safe to use the 1300mA AC to DC converter. THANX

As long as the voltage of your supply is DC, 6V and has the right POLARIZATION on the power jack. (ie, make sure the center pin matches what the receiver expects... if it's backwards, you risk blowing up your receiver) All of these must match exactly to what the reciever expects.

as for Amp rating, the minimum you must be able to supply is 600 mA. so a 1300mA supply will work just fine!

Radio shack has a unit that plugs into a 110 socket and will accept the 12V plug that is standard with the radio. I use my unit in the house, car and on my motorcycle. The part number is 22-505 for the Radio Shack part.

Sounds like its the dock itself. Have you tried using the home dock with the vehicle power or visa versa? This should help you confirm what the problem is. You can get a replacement power adapter here:

A cradle may be difficult to find, but TSS Radio can help you look.

I have an older model radio.. Delphi Roady 2.. gets powe to the docking station to the removalable unit but screen display will not light up.. any suggestions???

Probably the cheapest solution is to buy a used Roady2 off online bidding service like ebay and then pay the $15 to XM to switch radios. Delphi no longer makes Roady2. Probably could not repair for a cheap as you can buy used radios (around $25).

What do I need to install my roady to a 12volt dc system?

Just a Delphi 12VDC cigarette lighter adapter plug that will plug into this unit. You will also need an XM mini car antenna plugged into it. This has a nice FM transmtter, so you can use that, or use the audio output plug to go to your car AUX input jack or use a cassette adapter. Okay? More questions, just ask.
