Remove battery and try to reinstall.

If that doesnt work, goto the setup dial and find the default settings and click it!

Also, make sure the front of the camera's sensors are clean and free of any debris....clean the lens very carefully with a Q-Tip dabbed in alcohol....Should work!

Why does the picture constantly go out of focus while filming on zoom

I am not sure if this is the right solution. If you mean the focus is constantly changing while shooting in video mode, you have to change your settings to something other than tracking and auto focus. When these menus are selected, the camera constantly adjust it's lens to maintain the subject in focus. If the subject moves, the camera re-adjust again and that usually records the blurred moments in the video.

My canon G9 does not seem to give good focusing results. Pictures seem slightly out of focus specially with flash on Auto

Your autofocus may need to be re calibrated-- this is not something you can do on your own, but it is something that could be done at a local camera repair shop. Take it in and see if they would be able to adjust it or give you an estimate.

When i go to shoot an action photo like something that is moving the camera always delays. i focus on the moving target but when the button is pressed the subject moves out of the view and then the shot is...

OHH - I can met this problem before , the camera is trying to auto focus and in the time it does the focus the action has passed.
Take a light & speed setting - then switch to manual mode OR manual focus , this will eliminate the AUTO focus looking for best light reading distance etc.
Some cameras also have a "fast" setting which is usually a 'running man' icon - click this button and the picture will drop back to 5mpixels but it will take a quick shot instead of saving then scanning at a slower speed.

When I look through the viewfinder on my Nikon D40x it is blurry and looks out of focus, but when but after I take the picture it is clear on the lcd screen. Is there a setting I can change or is something...

Adjust view finder focus as you will see setting there, to view correct focus in view finder itself.
Camera is just fine because it is taking good focus pictures.

My c743 auto focus comes into focus than back out of focus. Is there an adjustment or is something dirty?

there is something wrong with the zoom and focus electronics, mine won't focus in wide angle, it's permently focused on 3x zoom.

Unable to focus image in viewfinder

There is a little wheel nest to the viewfinder on the camera. It is called something like dioptric focus (forgive me I am going off of what I heard pronounced) and it allows you to manually set the focus to your eyesight. Just adjust the wheel while looking through the viewfinder and you should be set.

Veiw finder(eye piece ) out of focus pictures are fine

Use the diopter adjustment to refocus the viewfinder to your eye.

Point the camera at a sign or something with writing on and half press the shutter button to focus then move the little adjuster at the top right of the viewfinder until the image in the veiwfinder is in focus

Autofocus off

Is this when you are trying to focus on something close up? If so you want to go into Portrait mode (turn dial to little head) then hit down arrow on the wheel once to MF mode (manual focus), then use the left and right arrow to focus specific inches or cm.

Shutter Lag

Card speed won't interfere with shutter lag. The lag is much less (near non-existent) if you pre-focus. Or use manual focus with small enough aperture to get lots of depth of field. Make sure your kids are in the focus zone and just snap away.
