Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I just purchased a refurb computer (Harvey Norman),I connected the computer as instructed but it appears that it cannot find the harddrive, only the CD. The prompt on the screen asks for a boot drive to be inserted. I did not receive a disc and was told APOS it would install for me. A friend who is a programer says it does not recognise a harddrive.

When the computer is starting up, go into setup. If you watch the screen it will tell you what button you have to press in order to get into it. It will be Delete, F1 or F10 more likly. Once in there go into hardware, then look at the IDE slots. Primary master, Primary Slave, Secondary Master, and Secondary Slave. It should have all of your Hard Drives, and Optical Drives that are currently installed there. If the HDD does not show up then it is broken, or the pinout on the HDD is wrong. If it does show up the the computer you got does not have an operating system installed on it.

Gateway dx300 hard drive

Gateway DX300 Desktop PC is a series.

Could be a Gateway DX300MC, or DX300QS, or DX300S, or DX300X,

Fortunately all models in the series use a SATA harddrive.

[ Gateway DX300X Desktop PC used as an example,

In the list click on - Components
On this page scroll down to the bold subheading - Harddrives

All models came with a Western Digital harddrive, but it doesn't matter what the harddrive manufacturer is, that you use ]

What size in GB amount? Depends on what you want. I myself wouldn't go more than 320GB.
That is because your anti-virus program has to sift through the harddrive.

The larger the harddrive, the longer it takes.

For more capacity, I would install a 1TB harddrive into an external enclosure, and use it connected to the computer, with it's USB cable.
(It will also come with an additional external power supply)

But that is just me.

Bear in mind that a new harddrive has no Operating System on it.
You have to purchase a genuine copy of Windows, and install it.
(This is if your harddrive presently on that Gateway is bad)

[ Microsoft makes one Master disk. From it all GENUINE copies are made, and sold to the consumer ]

My copy of DVD X Copy Xpress version 3.0.2 bought from Harvey Norman in Bundaberg Queensland 4 years ago loaded but will not activate, I tried by phone and a window came up requiring a different pass word...

The proxy Id is coming up possibly becouse the program has no access to internet. I recommend you try the phone activation, have you called the number? the phone support should sort it out with you.

let me know how it goes.

I need to install d3d in my computer

Hello there, I am the computer technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Cristina Torres.

Yes you are quite correct a 3D device/graphics/display card needs to be installed in your computer to play games well.

Start by checking what expansion slots are available on your computer mainboard. These are slots going from the front of your computer to the rear of your computer.

There are many different slot types, the most likely would be PCI-Express X16 or AGP X8 or AGP X4. If it is a white slot then it is plain PCI.

Find the model number of your mainboard, it is usually found between the slots and Google specifications to determine the best interface to use.

Then go to your favorite computer store and ask to purchase a graphics card with the interface that fits your computer's mainboard.

Feel free to ask questions.

Take care!

Click here to download the drivers for your HP Hewlett Packard Pavilion a1016x Desktop PC.

All you need to do now is to select the operating system that your HP Desktop PC is running and click Next.

A list of applicable drivers is displayed under headings. Click each heading for the driver you need.

Now click the second secondary heading to download the file.
Then click the Download button found on the top left of the page.

Save the download to a location on your computer's hard drive, like My Documents as you will need to still install the drivers by double clicking them.

DELL E6420 beeping intermittently

Hello there, I am the computer technician that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Ronnie Bradl.

Intermittent beeping donotes that the Notebook computer is overheating. The beep is a warning that the Processor has reached the set tempreature alarm. Usually set to 65degrees Cen.

Clean the vents of the notebook with a vaccum cleaner and paintbrush. Be sure to Remove the power and battery from the notebook. Get out as much dust as possible. In addition you could purchase a Notebook cooler.

Notebook coolers ensure that the notebook receives sufficient airflow, some coolers even have fans installed for greater performance.

When using your notebook on a table surface, raise the rear of the notebook off the table to allow for additional airflow. Be sure not to obstruct the vents. A pen or pencil may do the trick.

If the problem persists, you may need to get your notebook serviced/cleaned by a laptop computer technician.

Take care!

I need instructions how to remove hard drive

Use the camera function on your cell phone; take picture of all cable connections
disconnect all cables to your computer
disconnect thumbscrews/screws holding computer cabinet shell at the back of computer
slide the cabinet shell forward exposing chasis frame. Lay computer on its side

important: Ground your body to the chassis frame (prevents static discharge damage)

Locate harddrive; with a magic marker ink one side to each of the two plugs and their sockets that are connected to the hard drive.(take picture maybe easer)
This is called making withness marks; it gives you a reference and orientation when you put things back together; the smaller plug is the power plug; the larger plug is for data.

Remove screws that secure harddrive to frame; Ground new harddrive to chasis; replace harddrive.

Where can I find video and game cards for my acer t180

Providing that it is also an Acer motherobard, the Acer website should provide hardware accessories. If not, just go to your local hardware store ie Harvey Norman, Super Billing etc. And asked if your part can be ordered in. Ebay is also another possibility, although the products may be faulty

I couldn't find illustration, but you'll need SATA cable and 4 small orange/yellow connectors in the corner of motherboard are your SATA connectors.
