The carriage is clean and lubericated. The message says carriage jam clear carriage jam. press ok. When you press OK it makes clicking noises and the paper will feed a little. Then the same message will come on and press ok again and is clicks and thumps a few more times and feeds a little bit more than the message comes back on again. This started once I removed the color cartridge to examine it and put it back. Hasn't worked since. I have turned off the printer and turned it back on and it has been stuck where it want power down. I would have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to turn off now!

This problem is to do with the electrical connector panel on the cartridge. These can become dirty although you can't always see dirt, more over it is finger grease or silicon film on the gold contact terminals. Good tip is to use a cotton bud dipped in nail varnish remover and carefully clean the area on the printer where contact is made with the cartridge, and the contact area on the cartridge contact area itself. Finally clean around the cartridge jet area where the ink is discharged during printing.

Carriage error is service bound

printer will just give you random error - for example: print head is blocked but nothing is blocking it

1. Clean the paper path - there might be bits or paper dust gumming things up.

2. Remove BOTH cartridges. Check where the ink ejects from the cartridge and clean them if they are smeared. (USE CAUTION AND LIGHT PRESSURE, as the ink will flow on what you are using.)

3. Check around the ink holders for loose/dropped ink and remove it with a Q-Tip and a light use of rubbing alcohol. Remove power to the printer (wall outlet) for 5 minutes. Reinstall ink catridges and power printer on.

The noise which u are hearing is of the printer getting adjusted but the gears which move together to get adjusted r not able move frequently and r getting blocked in between somewhere.just unplug the power from the back of the printer and then reinsert after 5 minutes and then ON it will automatically get adjusted after 1 minute.and it will work properly. if it still shows this problem apply any thing like greese substance on the steel rod on which the carriage moves. if still the problem then most probably the printer needs servicing and cleaning.get it done .

Try first unplugging the printer for ten minutes to reset it.

The clicking noise is the traction belt slipping over the pulley, try moving gently the carriage with your hands, and see if the traction belt is well in place.

Also clean the encoder strip, that is the plastic strip that runs near to the traction belt.

How do i fix a cartridge jam?

Hi andmary,
While using the HP Photosmart C4180, the printer may display error messages. These messages alert you, as the printer's user, to any problems affecting the printer's performance. The printer can display the message "Carriage Blocked" on the printer's display screen, stopping any current print jobs and preventing you from printing anything until you resolve the problem. The error message can be caused by an actual obstruction, such as a stuck piece of paper, keeping the cartridge carriage from moving freely inside the printer. Sometimes the error is a result of a software error.

Instructions:
1. Turn off the printer, wait 15 seconds, then turn it back on. Press the "Setup" button on the control panel, then use the arrows to highlight "Print Report" and press the "Ok" button to print a self-test page.
2. Remove all the loose paper from the printer's input tray. Turn off the printer and open the back door by depressing the tab on the left side.
3. Pull out any stuck paper, being sure to turn the rollers to check for small pieces of paper. Close the back door and open the printer's front door.
4. Remove any stuck paper from the printer. Move the cartridge carriage from the left to the right side of the machine, removing anything that stops the carriage's movement.
5. Push down on each cartridge, then pull each one out of its slot. Replace the cartridges in their slots, then push forward on them until they each click into place.
6. Plug the printer back in and turn it on, then unplug the printer's power cord from the back of the machine and the electrical outlet. After at least 15 seconds, plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on. If the problem persists, take the printer to a repair shop.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Printer will not work it gives me error:oxc18a0306

Hi lee1071. regarding with your photosmart printer.. there's 2possible reason why the error message pops up..
1st: if the ink cartridge is bad and if the cartridge is a refilled ink cartridge 2nd: there's problem with the print mechanism of the printer.
most of the time, that error code can lead into a hardware failure.
now, here's what you can do..
if you will notice there's a carriage that is holding the ink cartridges of your printer..that is removable, there's a latch on the right side of it..pull it up and remove the carriage..after that..soak the carriage on a lukewarm or it'll be better if the water is a boiled water for you to melted the inks that clogged on the electrical contact and leave it for about 10mins..after doing that, remove the carriage and dry it using a tissue or dry cloth..
put the carriage back in but make sure that it is fully dry, lower the latch and put the ink cartridges back in. after that turn the printer off and on..
and if it didn't worked, then theres really problem with the printer itself.,
if you have any further question.. dont hesitate to reply..
thanks.

How do i replace a colored and blank ink cartridge in my hp photosmart 8150?

Hi,

The Open the front access door and the Carriage ( which holds the cartridges should move in center )
Push down the Cartridge ( which is in the cartridge slot ) and pull it out.

To install a new cartridge, Slide the cartridge from downwards and push up and it should get snapped.

Regards,
Ron

How to remove the cartridge from hp photo smart 7960

Hello the manual way to release cartridge is

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Look for the gray-colored carriage on the right side of the printer.
  4. Find the horizontal (bottom) edge of the carriage and follow it towards the back (or in) until it makes a 90-degree turn. Follow it down to the ¼ inch-high, black-colored capping station.
  5. Using a screwdriver or similar tool, push the capping station toward the back of the printer.
NOTE: Do not pull on the ribbon cable when moving the carriage.
  6. Making sure to not push up on the carriage, move the carriage to the middle of the printer. If the carriage is still locked in place, push the capping station farther into the printer and try moving the carriage again.
  7. After the carriage is pulled out from the right-hand side of the printer, remove both print cartridges and store them according to specifications.
  8. Close the top cover.

"Check color cartridge" error message

Try resetting the printer to factory defauts. Hold down the # and 6 buttons. Pull out the power cable while holding these buttons down. Keep your fingers on these buttons and put back the power cable. It should now show (full/partial reset). Follow the prompts and setup all your original features. If this fails then you might have a hardware problem.(Carriage assembly or Cartridge Holder)

GOOD LUCK

I've changed the print cartridges for both color and black on a C4200 printer scanner. Now I'm getting a carriage jam message, when there doesn't seem to be anything jammed in the carriage. Help.

check whether the cartridges are installed properly or they seem to be loose.also apply a waxy material on the steal rod of the printer on which the carriage moves.to make it move frequently and fluently.
thank.

Color Cartridge Failure

You know, I'm not going to read the other solution. I know 100% FOR SURE, when a cartridge fails, it is dead and there is nothing you can do about it, but there is a good side. HP ink cartridges have a year warranty. Call them and tell them it failed, they'll send you a new one!
