Question about Sony Walkman D-EJ100 Personal CD Player

Open Question

My Sony CD Walkman D-EJ100 stopped playing CDs; it can read the discs content and the various pause/play, stop, track forward, track backward buttons work but it won't play the CDs. I spilled a tiny bit of water on the unit, but it appeared to only splash on the surface. Is it trashed? Or is it worth repairing? The authorized Sony repair shop wants $49.00+shipping and handling. I may as well buy a new one at that price.

SOURCE: Blinking "disc" error

Hi Lambo, 1) Your disc may be bad: scratches on surface, the surface maybe dirty, the disc is maybe bended,... Try with other discs, if the error occurs see next steps. If not, the initial disc was bad, but don't throw away, you may be able to clean it. 2) The Laser-optics in your Walkman can also suffer: - open your Walkman as if you would load a disk; look inside and you will see a little lens inside: clean it by using a ear-cleaner ( little stick with cotton on one or both ends). First dip the cotton end in some pure natural alcohol ( ethyl) and wipe very carefully over the little lens surface 3) The drive-mechanism of the Laser may also be cause; the only thing you can do on the field; the little lens ( see 2 ) normally should be near the end of a channel which you can recognize as the cut-out of the plastic . While reading a CD the lens moves thru this channel. You can try to push very softly this lens towards the nearest end of the channel. It often helps. 4) The Laser can be to its end of life; you can ask to change the opto-electrical mechanism, but I'm afraid it will cost you nearly as much as a new player; if you can buy a second hand might be even cheaper. Important for the future: - don't write with markers on discs; these texts release small quantities of fumes on laser-lenses - smokers pollute also with nicotine-fumes their lenses and discs Hope you can get nice music ASAP; let us know

SOURCE: sony cd walkman D-EJ100 troubleshooting

There is a switch on the bottom of the unit that puts it in "HOLD" mode. My guess its for use when it is shipped so there will be less chance of damage. Try switching the two position switch to the other position.

My Sony CDP-XA7ES CD Player can play only up to 6 to 9 tracks depending on the length of the tracks n then stops.

replace the spindle motor. the motor's speed varies while playing cds and a worn motor will not keep to the correct speed for playback of certain tracks on various points of the disc and will cause skipping and even stop altogether.

hope this helps.

I'm recording from cassette tape to CD and cannot figure out how to create a new track when I do it. I remember from the manual (which is lost) that a silence of ~4sec should automatically do it, but that...

Can you name the make and model? Maybe we can find a manual. I find a lot of them at retrevo.com. Just register for free and download whatever they have.

I think you have the 4 second thing backward.

Most CD Recorders will interpret a 4-second silence while recording as the end of a given track and will stop or pause. Some can can be set to leave a blank of 4 seconds between tracks (or not) when manually starting a new track. That can really be a problem on continuous recordings like live music or some classical material where brief silences occur routinely.

On my Pioneer PDR-509 there is a "Track No. Auto/Manual" selection that allows me to write a track manually whenever I want to. This is good for live or segued musical selections and doesn't require a stop/start of the recording. Of course, any time you pause or stop the track number will be incremented.

I can't really speak to the TOC errors. The fault could be with a) your machine, b) the media or c) the playback machine. The TOC is automatically created when you Finalize the disc. My machine takes 4 minutes to write it.

Little-known fact: a CD that is not finalized will not read/play on a CD player but a DVD player might play it from start to finish just fine, but without the ability to skip around because of the missing TOC. Nice to know if you mess up an original irreplaceable CD recording by not finalizing it and need to copy it over.

Sony MDS-JE440 mini disc,single play

If there is a "PROGRAM" button, then you just turn on "program", rotate the knob to what track you want and then hit ENTER. Then when you hit 'play' it will only play back that track. You'll have to repeat this for every track or manually hit the PAUSE button between tracks if you program more than one.

Player stops mid track and shows ''no disc''.

HELLO

Have you tried cleaning the lens? It's incredible how a dirty lens can cause so much grief! You'll need the CD player cover removed and powered off then get some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. Wet the bud but not too much get any excess moisture off.

Using a careful circular motion clean the lens, let it dry and try the player again. If this does not cure the problem, you may have a defective laser and that will need replacing.

ALL THE BEST (:-)

Sony cd walkman reads but won't play

If you have a small enough screwdriver and some time it's not too hard. I just fixed one of my kids' walkman (same make & model) yesterday. The motor that spins the gears that makes the laser assembly move back & forth came loose. There is a single screw that holds this motor in place. They should use some lok-tite or similar when they assemble these things.

Hold down the Display/Menu function button (one of those three buttons on the left of the unit) for about 3-4 seconds until the display reads "t set". When this appears, push the track forward button once (>>|) so the display reads "beep"; now press the play pause button (>||) once. The display will now say "on", push the track forward button (>>|) once to make it read "off"; now push the stop play button. You're done. Enjoy the silence.
