Go to Start - Run,. then type in the box CMD.

At the command prompt type ipconfig /all

Write down your settings. Type EXIT to close the prompt window.

IF you're on DHCP, there is no need for this, as you will be allocated an automatic IP when your network card is initialized.

Cannot Connect to Minecraft Server

Try changing the server port in the server.properties file. There may be another program using this port. If that does not wor try to start the server without being connected to a network (note when the server is changed you must append it to the ip. For example 192.168.1.2:25564)

Why can't you connect to the Internet?

First check your TCP/IP address - see my earlier tip on checking you are connected to a network. For most recent systems, (not Linux) open a command prompt window (type "cmd" in the RUN window from the start menu) and type ipconfig /all
you should see your network adapter name and IP address, a subnet mask (don't worry) and a default gateway, also a DNS server IP address. If ANY of these are missing, that's your problem, try repairing or resetting the network adapter. WRITE THEM DOWN. You may have more than one adapter, you need to identify which one is used for the Internet connection.
If they are all there, from the SAME window type "ping" followed by the IP address of your default gateway. If this fails, you have no connection to your internet router, find out why!
If this succeeds, type "ping" again, followed by the IP address of your DNS server. If this fails, type "tracert" and then the IP address of your DNS server. The FIRST address that will be reported is your default gateway; followed by your ISP address; if the only address you see is your default gateway, the link to your ISP  is down, give them  a call. If it succeeds, from the same window type "nslookup"
You will see a chevron prompt, type in the name of the site you want to go to, e.g google.com.
You should then see a reply from your DNS server, and an IP address for your required server. If not, then either your DNS server settings are wrong OR the server does not exist. It will be obvious which it is from the reply you receive. If the DNS settings are wrong, you can change them from the Control Panel, Network, Network adapter, Properties, TCP/IP v4 properties menu; try setting DNS server to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 and try again.

Wireless router is connecting to a 169 ip address instead of a 192 ip address. I know it's an issue regarding the DHCP server but it's not making any since, since I've done ipconfig /release, renew and it...

When your computer is trying to request IP address from a DHCP server but it does not see the DHCP server it will give up and make up an IP address for itself. This IP will often look something like 169.x.x.x. This is a fake local address that Windows assigned to your PC when it couldn't reach a DHCP server.

Make sure that your computer is connected to a network with working DHCP server.

If your laptop has a wireless card built in - or external, you will be able to get the wireless signal.  You need to open your wireless dialog - Start > My Network Places > View Network Places

Im try to set up an wireless connection but it always seams to have a problem, one of them is that the sistem says that i have an ip comflict! what can i do?

If your getting that message on your computer that means the IP address that your computer acquied from your serverrouter has a duplicate in the network. The very first thing that you need to check is whethere your computer has a an IP address that is manually assigned to it, to check this just go to Network Connections under Control Panel(assuming your computer runs on Windows XP). Right click on the Wireless Connection icon and go to properties, under Local Area Network Properties you will find several check marks under This device uses the following; Client for Microsoft, File and Printer Sharing, QoS Packet Scheduler etc... Look for and highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click Properties, under the TCP/IP Properties you have 2 option for both IP and DNS server. Make sure both is set to obtain. If your still getting the same message Right click on Wireless Connection and choose repair so tha your router/server will provide a new unique IP address, wel that will usually resolve the IP address conflict on your computer.

DSL or cable? DSL you will only need your usernam/password combo for PPPOE, cable you should be able to just plug it in and go. set your router for DHCP and it will pull all pertinent info from your ISP's DHCP and DNS servers.

I'm not sure about setting up Linksys WRT54G2 Broadband Router in conjuction with desktop Sony Windows XP. I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 notebookWindows Vista) to configure the router so I can use it...

the cable should go to any of the pc's u wish to configure the router with, then all you have to do is configure the router via internet explorer, just type 192.168.1.1 in your adress bar and use admistrator for both password and username(these are the defaults) the pc that u wish to set the router up must be set to dhcp(this is done by going to network connection settings selecting properties then where it says internet protocol(tcp/ip)
select properties and select obtain an IP address automatically(this will make router give you an ip adress)
