Depending on how long you have had it but I would take the hoses and make sure that they are not clogged, Or make sure that every thing is hooked up the way it should. With gas stoves you have a nob that tarns off and on I would check that as well. As well make sure that you take your time and be careful. where I come from the shops are very helpful when you call with questions, If it came to it and all else fails I would call and say what the problem is and see what they think, let them know that you are needing to get an idea of the cost for fixing.

Gas smell when oven is on and heating.

This sounds like a gas leak at the gas control valve for the oven, probably somewhere just past the control valve. If the leak was before the valve, you would either hear or smell gas leaking all the time.
The line could simply be loose at the fitting or the gas valve could be faulty. You could also have a leak somewhere at or before the oven burner assembly.

At any rate, this condition can be dangerous. The oven gas leak (any gas leak) should be diagnosed by a competent technician and the cause(s) of the gas leak determined as soon as possible and corrected.

GE SPECTRA JGBP35 Gas oven

Solved a similar issue. Sounds like your glowbar igniter is shot and needs to be replaced. While the glowbar is glowing, it is not heating up sufficiently to release gas into the oven. The heat you feel in the oven is actually from the glowbar and not from ignited gas. Replace the glowbard. Here is what I recommended to someone else:

"Would be helpful to know brand and model. However, most gas ovens use a glowbar mechanism that regulates the amount of gas released into the oven. The glowbar also ignites the gas (and usually stays on all the time the oven is on). Often, the glowbar fails to heat up sufficiently and, as a result, doesn't allow the oven to release sufficient gas. If this happens, you may also smell small amounts of gas in the kitchen. The glowbar is hot enough to ignite the limited amount of gas being released into the oven. This is probably why the oven heats up but heats up very slowly. It's also possible that the heat being experienced in the oven is being generated from the glowbar itself without any gas being ignited. If this is the case however, it is unlikely that your oven to get very hot at all.

The way to test to see if they glowbar is failing is to test the amperage traveling to the glowbar when the oven is on. You can do this using a "clamp on meter" (purchased at any Home Depot or Lowes). Depending on the particular kind of glowbar you have, it should read above a certain amperage (in my case the reading was 2.7 amps and it should have been between 3.2 and 3.7 amps). I ordered a new glowbar from www.appliancepartspro.com and installed it myself (very easy). It fixed the problem. Here is a link that explains it pretty well (http://www.appliance411.com/faq/gas_range_ignition_systems.shtml#glow). Hope this helps."

Gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

Hotpoint gas oven

This is an indication of low gas pressure to the oven. This condition may improve when other gas equipment is turned off and worsen when demands increase such as during cold periods where heating plants are running. Contact your local gas company to check pressures at the burners and adjust the incoming pressure to the oven accordingly.

Gas oven not heating

waka,

I'm guessing that there is an issue of some kind with flow of heat inside the oven. Gas ovens use the hot air/gas exhaust to heat up the oven. Flames mean heat. The flames should be about half an inch long or so. If not, there may be an issue, but I don't think that is it.

Have you lined the oven with foil? It is possible that vents from the boiler section are closed up? That will prevent heat from reaching the oven.

Oven failing to light

The ignitor needs at least 3.2 amps current flow to heat the bi metal in the gas  control valve enough to allow the gas to flow. cold ignitor (red) will not flow enough current, when ignightor gets yellow resistance drops enogh to allow bi metal to heat and allow gas valve to flow and ignight gas. most likely your ignitor is shot
