If you can get the exact mobo you may replace it. No driver issue will raise. You can also buy a new mobo with same chipset and replace it. Same chipset mobo will require to install Sound, ethernet and vga drivers
I have the same exact problem. I think the motherboard is defective, acer support is less than helpful, wants to take my harddrive and stuff. I am thinking about buying a new mobo, even if I have to shop around and mod the case. The other idea would be to just slip in a pcie video card, but then.. what if it wasn't video causing the lockup, and some other motherboard logic? You're still hosed. So I'm going to replace the mobo. Hope that helps. try www.newegg.com or tigerdirect.com
You have to repair the installion, When you change the mobo you need to reinstall or repair the os, even with windows, well of course with windows because windows sucks, Try updating from the shell sudo apt-get install update
when you say it doesnt boot? you mean it doesnt go to windows? or theres really nothing on the screen? whats the color of your power button on tower, it soldi orange, reseat all data and power cables from your hard drive and dvd drive, if no go, replace mobo and power supply.
sounds like your system is not booting, that may be, obiusly you just have power but that's it...no boot routine. hope somebody else could help on "how to make sure your system can boot again, then the rest.
Try removing the HD, then boot. If this doesnt work, then try the RAM, wireless card, and any other device. If this doesnt work, then it is something to do with the motherboard or LCD monitor.
Hook the lapto up to a VGA monitor. If it shows video then your LCD screen is toast, or one of the connections. If no video comes out at all, then your mobo is probably gone and you need to replace it.
Those are items I would have done myself to test it. It sounds like some item is bad on MOBO (motherboard) it will have to be replaced in any case. I would order a new battery and a replacement MOBO for that unit. If your under a warranty Toshiba would have you send back the laptop to them so they can repair it. Or have local authorized service center send a tech with replacement parts to fix it onsite.
