My gateway 1 won't even start. Returned under warranty

It's been two months now and they still can't fix it. It's cost me a lot in lost business.

    Thanks Geekman,

    Thats exactaly what I did. Now I'm in the drivers seat. How can I contact Gateway legally? They always promise to call back but never do.



    By the way I bought a HP. It's great. Maybe the HP legal dept would want to help.

If you have backed up your data, then get a new computer and copy the data to your new computer.
It should not take 2 months to identify the fault and advise the course of action.
The cost of lost business would probably be less that the cost of a new computer.

    In Australia we have a Consumers Affairs agency and we can driect our complaints against a company with facts.

    You might have a similar agency in USA, can't help you from my end.

I'm beginning to think that the gateway zx4300 all in one has a major defect problem with the motherboard. Mine is 8 months old and the screen went black on me a couple of times then totally went out. I took it back to best buy (still under warranty) they sent it to Kentucky (gateway) 3 weeks later got it back and it's starting to do it again. I'm not happy and am pretty ********** at this point. I use my computer for business and this has been a major inconvenience and money loser. I want to have gateway trade this for a different computer. 8 months old for this to happen is unacceptable.

How to end Compaq CQ70 misery


I have owned a CQ70 for 2 years 2 months. Before I reveal my tips, here's my experience:
On purchase:
- quick start guide doesn't even show keys and switches, how to use camera, etc
- no software or manual supplied, only useless safety guide CD
- request for info to Compaq online: they returned a form to let them know how well they had served me when they hadn't served me at all
- subsequent requests unanswered
- complaint to www2.hp.com returned a worm called HTML-script-inf
First year:
- keyboard failed after 2 months; replaced under warranty
- screen failed after just under a year; replaced under warranty
- sound regularly disappears; have to reboot
- carrying bag burst within 6 months
- SD card reader worked intermittently for a few months, then not at all
Second year:
- I accidentally discovered the touchpad disable button; it doesn't work
- battery expired after 18 months
- replacement screen started to fail after 18 months
Now:
- replacement screen failed completely after 2 years 2 months
- I get electric shocks off the left side
- it generates constant flow of "Enter" commands; keyboard, mouse, USB ports cleaned to no avail; clears on reboot for a few hours (no viruses / worms - I regularly check)
- the HDD will not start spinning on mains power; I have to remove power cord and start on battery only, then replace power cord

Tip #1: I understand from a friend who works for HP that the good components go into the HP series and all the s*** into the Compaq series, so DON'T BUY COMPAQ.
Tip #2: If you have already bought one, put it in the bin or use it for landfill
Tip #3: If you want a reliable computer that will last for years, buy a cheap and cheerful Taiwanese no-brand. We've got two - they're great.

Sorry, no there isn't much you can do at a consumer level with this player, except, if you still have a manufacturer's warranty, taking advantage of it and sending the unit back for warranty repair/replacement (whichever they suggest to you). It is clearly malfunctioning, beyond user control - send it back as a warranty claim (if you still have one on this model). It won't cost you in repairs that way.

Don't put up with a defective product, send it back - get it fixed under warranty free of charge (if applicable), or the unit replaced (again, if under warranty, free).

It won't cost hundreds of dollars and shouldn't take forever to resolve this simple case. Good luck. This is something the manufacturer should worry about; not you.

Epson Artisan 800 Scanner leaves blue/grey stripe on side.


I had this exact same issue with two Artisan 800's. I was told it was a hardware issue. Both were returned under warranty to Epson. Have since had problems with ADF and that printer was returned. Warranty has now ended. Expecting to buy a new printer shortly: they last about 4 months before having problems. It won't be an Epson even though that's all I've owned for 10 years

Plugged in not charging


Is the laptop still under warranty, if so get it repaired under warranty. If you try and fix it yourself you most likely would void your warranty. Power problem are quite common with laptops especially with the power socket on the laptop and the power plug which plugs into the power socket. These problems can be fixed, but I suggest you try to get yours fixed under warranty.

Samsung refrigerator freezer not freezing


I just returned the same fridge to Lowe's where I bought it using the warranty for the same problem. The temperature sensors went out, and everyone said the computer board needed to be replaced but no one could seem to get it together enough to order us one. Month later we are getting a new fridge.

Q: What if my Gateway System Recovery CD/DVD is lost, missing or damaged? A:
  • For computers shipped after November 1, 2004 and until January 2005, a patch needs to be installed. Download the patch through our FTP site at ftp://esupport:vImvF88@ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_support/drivers/apps/medialess/Create_DRV_APPS_CD_Update.exe. After the installation of this patch, the option to create the drivers and applications CD is available from the Start menu under Programs. However the operating system (OS) CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service.
    Note: Replacement of the operating system CD may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

  • For computers shipped between January 2005 and June 2005, the option to Create my Drivers-Applications CD(s) is already available under Programs. The operating system CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service, and may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

Send them an email with model number from tag at the back of the computer and ask for recovery CD.

the phones need to reflash so try topsony.com or if that does not work although it should then take the phone and have the speakers tested
