Question about Intel DG31PR Motherboard

1 Answer

I just put together a new computer, parts ordered over the internet. I have the dg31pr motherboard with a 2.2 GHz dual core processor and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM. I think everything is installed correctly, but when I turn the computer on, I get the motherboard light, the system light, and the fans start up, but I get no beep, and the monitor shows nothing whenever it is hooked up to the system. What could the problem be? And is there a way to fix it without replacing parts? Because I have no other parts, and I don't really have the money to get any...

As far as I can see, all the cables are attached properly and all the devices are hooked up. I'm having trouble figuring out whether or not the power supply is enough for what I'm running, because this motherboard didn't come with a manual, and it's not coming up when I try to pull it up online. The RAM is all seated properly and is the right type. I didn't put thermal grease between the fan and CPU..where would I put it? On the CPU cover, between that and the heat sink? And would not having put the grease on cause the system to light up, fans running, but no beeps? Thanks for your help...

Check for the following:

1. Are ALL the power cables attached to the motherboard? There should be 2, The "long" one and the 4-square one the connects to the motherboard away from the master socket.

2. Are ALL the devices hooked up? Powering up w/o a load will cause this problem.

3. Are you using a strong enough power supply for your rig?

4. Is the RAM properly seated, as is the video card (if not an integrated one)?

5. If you installed the CPU and fan - did you put thermal grease between the fan and the CPU?

6. Does the RAM match and are they in the right sockets, as well?

Not putting thermal grease on top of the CPU (between the CPU and heatsink) will cause the machine to lockup/shut down because of the immense heat build-up.

WARNING: Running it as-is (w/o thermal paste) can KILL the CPU.

You may be able to install a quad core processor on your motherboard, will need the model to check.
You can't make new cores out of nothing though.

What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

(do not attempt to use a CPU that your motherboard doesn't support. It probably won't boot.)

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

•1 GB RAM
•750 MB free hard disk space for installation
•1024x768 VGA with true color
•Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (SP1 or higher)
If you are using AutoCAD for 3D modeling, you should bump up your system as follows:
•Intel Pentium 4 processor or AMD Athlon, 3.0 GHz or greater
or
Intel or AMD Dual Core processor, 2.0 GHz or greater
•2 GB RAM or greater

If you are using Dual Core the mother board you are using may have PCI Express Slot. So that you may install Graphics card. Only for particular lower end mother board doesn't have this feature. Any way tell me your motherboard make and model no. e.g., Intel DG31PR, 945GNT, DG41TY etc.,
