You don't need to replace the tower if only the cd drive unit is bad. you can have that replace for a fair price... or you can do it yourself (although if you don't know how you're better off paying for it).

Richard is right.. you can download the driver for your printer online.. if you need help with that post the make and model of your printer, aswell as your operating system and we can help you getting the page that will have the drivers

I would go for a new cd drive instead of a used cd drive... you may want to check with some one that can check your pc to know exactly what is compatible with your system and that you trust.

I would also try to get the a cleaning kit at a computer store for you to try to clean the components inside your cd drive and possible get it to work again.

no.. it does not cost you a dime to dowload the software (it shouldnt).. post the make and model of you printer and we'll let you know from where you can download it

post make, model, operating system. if you want to please also post the make and model of your system and we can take a look at any knowledge base from hp to find out if the problem with cd drive may be associated with firmware issue or a driver issue, (unlikely but possible)..

by the way... have you checked windows updates website for any hardware updates for your computer? if not open the internet explorer web browser, to go tools,>windows updates> and go to custom and check for hardware updates

yes... operating system is say... windows xp, vista, 2000, NT 98, 95.. etc.. I'm assuming you have windows xp.. right??

on the front of the computer there's model number of you hp computer.. same thing for your printer.. post those numbers and the make of your printer as I know your computer is hp... I don't need passwords or anything.. I'm not trying to hack your computer.. I just need to know what computer you have to be able to research info pertaining your computer specifically!! so the more info the better.. but make and model will do!!

there's always possible to hack into someone's computer so it's good that you're not willing to just share whatever info someone asks for... keep doing that, protecting yourself

My knowledge and particularly my intergrity as a person don't allow me to do that.

given someone your make of model or your printer or computer does not put you in any risks (your computer and printer model and name of the manufacturer are the same for thousand of printers and computers out there) so it's completely ok to share that info. even the computer and printer serial number may be ok to give out but I was not requesting for it (and that's unique for your computer and printer.)

if you feel better doing the search on your own.. simply go to your computer/printer websites, look for support and look for driver download, enter your model and operating system as requested and you'll get what you need. I was offering to do that search for you but I understand where you're coming from so that's ok.

good luck!! and feel free to ask... that's what we're here for.

Hp compaq desktop black screen message disk boot failure insert system press enter

The words "disc boot failure" are terrifying for most computer users.

A disc boot failure notification generally means that your hard drive and operating system may be useless.

Fortunately, there are a variety of ways to troubleshoot your system in order to salvage your computer.

You may need to restart your computer a number of times before you manage to fix the error, so don't get discouraged.

A couple things to check first, make sure there's no floppy disc/cd in the drives, and if you are comfortable with computers, you can enter the boot setup of your BIOS, and check to see that your hard drive is listed as the primary boot device.

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.

Or there is a connection problem such as a bad cable

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a

secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide

this will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Turn off your computer by pressing and holding the power button until the computer shuts down.

Locate the boot disc for your operating system (OS).

Turn on your computer and insert the CD into the proper drive before your monitor reaches the BIOS screen.

If the computer cannot read the CD, eject it and wipe the readable side of the disc with a clean cloth.

Restart your computer and re-insert the CD.

If this does not begin to load your operating system

Restart your computer and press the "DEL" key when you reach the BIOS screen.

This will bring you to BIOS settings.

Make sure that your hard drive is enabled to be read by BIOS. Restart your computer.

Access the command prompt by pressing the "F8" button at the appropriate moment.

Your monitor will display a notification at the bottom of the screen when you can access the system options with "F8." From the menu that appears, select the "Command Prompt" option.

Enter the text "fdisk /mbr". On the next line, enter "sys c:" and press "Enter."

This will initiate a system restore of corrupted discs.

If this does not clear the disc boot error problem.

Turn off your computer and remove the power supply.

Remove the side panel from your hard drive tower by hand or with a screwdriver.

Locate the hard drive of your computer in the top-front section of the hard drive tower when viewed from the side.

Using your fingertips, make sure all connections to and from your hard drive component are secure.

Locate the BIOS battery, which is a circular battery found on the motherboard.

Make sure that all connections to and from the BIOS battery are secure.

Check the connection of your computer's RAM to your motherboard.

hope this helps

My CD tray will not after removing a fragmented disc that got stuck

It sounds as if there is either still some obstruction within the CD tray mechanism or path, or else the CD drive itself has failed and should be replaced.

I would recommend replacing the CD drive, especially if it has already caused one CD to break into fragments.

Replacing a CD drive should be reasonably easy if you have a tower computer and are happy to open the case.

Depending on the design, there are normally only 2 screws on each side of an optical drive and 2 cables on the rear to disconnect (3 cables if you have a direct sound connection from the drive to the motherboard).

Some case may have a quick release method for removing the optical drive. You should consider replacing the CD drive with a combination CD R/W DVD drive unless you already have a second DVD drive installed.

Cannot get my dvd cd rom to play dvds or cds tried everything apart from taking the tower off model #a1310n Prod# el448aa-aba

If you cannot hear the disk spinning when you put the cd or DVD in you may have a broken CD/DVD drive, easily and cheaply replaceable for under $20 at any store (Recommended: Best Buy). Try putting your Windows Disc into the drive to see if it is only a problem with playing Media, or if it is a problem with the drive itself and go from there. Good luck!

Finished CD's are empty...No sound or images

Try playing the CD in another player, if it plays OK, than you have narrowed it down to a problem with your PC. If this drive had a wire that plugged into the main board than chances are you need to do the same thing.
