Question about Panasonic PT-47WX53 47" Rear Projection HDTV

PT-47WX53G screen blank except for 3-4" Vertical Blue Bar

I have a Panasonic PT-47WX53G. The TV powers on, and still has sound. The Red LED on the front of the TV does not blink, so I'm not getting any diagnostic codes. When the TV is on, the only thing on the screen is a vertical bar just to the right of center. It is mostly blue, but there is slight red and green at the edge. I already replaced the convergence IC's with new STK392-110's. When I powered the TV back up, I still had the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is no intense light, actually the red and greens can only be seen when the tv is on in the dark. Let me know if that changes things, if not, I'll look at the service manual for part number and location.

In response to the first solution: From my research Panasonic's do not have a "jungle chip" in name, but sony's do. What would the part be called in a sony TV. I have a service manual so I can look up where the part is. I think you might be referring to the DC-board which is the main convergence circuit according to the service manual. Please let me know!

*Edit*: Previous comment I meant what would the part be in my Panasonic RPTV? Thanks

I will try to test the check points on the a-board like you mentioned. However it notes making these checks with a color bar pattern and picture settings normalized. How do I do this if I can't see anything on the screen? Will leaving the TV unplugged and "forcing" a reset accomplish this?

Hi The problem is in the standby power supply. the standby power supply generates the 9 volts and the 5 volts requird by the tv. If you measure the 9 volts source, with only the red light on, the correct voltage is 9 volts. However if the 9 volt measures 6.5 to 7 volts it is too low and the startup relays cannot operate. My set is a model 42FR9954/17S. In this set if capicator, 2603, is heated the voltage climbs to 9 volts and the relays work. If cold air is applied to the capicator the relays fail to operate. Replace capacitor 2503 and the problen is fixed. This capicator is: 47 Ufd, rated @ 450 volts, and is 20%.

If you dont get any raster, but you have intense light and a vertical bar, then the problem is not convergence.

Probably something wrong with the Jungle chip on the digital board.

You must follow the diagrams on service manual to fix this , it is not a frequent problem.

Hi there , I was checking on the service manual.

This model is a rear projection CRT, if you have no protect mode (led flashing) it is weird that this is a blown CRT, a convergence problem, or even a deflection or alignment problem.

Test the main board check points, you find the diagram at pag.16 on the service manual.

You can download the service manual here, follow instructions to download.

I dont think you can normalize the picture simply by unplugging.

You need to follow the troubleshooting charts at page 44 of user manual.
    (download the service manual here)

Regarding the jungle chip, that is just a familiar name for the main computer CPU, service manuals rarely call it Jungle chip. Your jungle Chip is the main processor, IC4511, be careful handling the component arount the IC4511, some IC in there is sensible to static charges in your hands, better to keep fingers away.

In your case I would start testing following the diagram at page 44 of SM. I will also test the pico fuses at the base of convergence ICs, if the STKs had been replaced
That is what you do when the nature of the problem is not clear.

Since there is no protection mode on, the fault
can concern IC3001 and IC3002 that are vidio processors, and other parts involved.

If at any point you get the led on, and TV going in protect mode, with a flashing led, that is a step forward, means that the jungle IC (The IC4511) had detected the fault.

Start testing following the procedure at page 44, or same page on your version of service manual.

Hi , this message is to bring you back to the original problem.

I am going offline now, if you have further query I answer usually within 24, if you dont get answered, remember that I get many requests, and the question can easily go lost, in that case ask again.

    Thanks

If you cannot enter into service mode there we have some problem, I thought we had no picture, but the menu screen was working.

Sorry about the confusion, but I am answering to several different problems at the same time.

In your case, all we can do is testing the check points on the A board, without normalizing the picture.

You should realize the same if out values, are wrong or if you have a blow component on tuner board.

If you replaced the convergence ICs, test again the pico fuses on convergence board, and the voltages on convergence board.
Try unplugging and connecting back the board.
If you removed screws check that all screws are back in place, they ground the boards.
Check that the CRTs are working, if you have light the high voltage is fine.
Check all boards for crcked solder joints.
I fix Plasma LCD and CRTs, I don't know if on a model like yours a faulty CRT or convergence can cause this, the weird thing is that there is no error code.
Observe strictly all the safety rules when you test the TV.

Panasonic pt-47wx53g red is out of convergence range

Have you moved the TV recently?, if so the red can(Red source) in the back bottom of the TV may have physically shifted in its holder, this is common when a rear projection tv is moved, jostled. Take the back off, look at the three cans,Red, Blue, Green, see if they all look like they are nested the same, bet the red is shifted a little.Good Luck with it!

3 blinks is the error code for the convergence ICs. You need to replace both STK392-110 convergence ICs. You can get replacement ICs at the following link and they provide installation instructions with pictures.

Panasonic PT-47WX53 does not turn on

Yes, I did try to use the power button on the TV itself. That did not work too. Yes, there is blinking red light too. I searched through several sights and found out that it is an issue with the IC 4511. I could not find a place to buy the chip.

By the way, our local TV dealer asked for $400 to fix this issue. I had already spent $400 on a different repair on this TV, 6 months ago.

Any suggestion/advice would be very helpful. Thank you again for your response.

Panasonic pt-47wx53g

You will have two of the STK392-110's in the set so a good idea to replace both. The reason is one of the IC's is dedicated to RED horizontal and vertical and then GREEN horizontal, the other is dedicated to the BLUE horizontal and vertical and then the GREEN vertical. These are the best place to start for ghosting in the colors.
