Question about Printers & Copiers
I've had my Cacon i1600 for a while but it has been working beautifully. Suddenly there are horizontal lines through the printout when the ink is pale (when printing just black). This has happened from a word document and an Autocad drawing file. I have replaced the cartridge, cleaned the heads etc etc. reinstalled the driver. If I include a solid black box object in the word document the text in line with the box prints fine but the other text on the page comes out with horizontal stripes.
Seems like the drum needs changing. This is the most common cause for print problems in these printers. If using the high yield TN 6600 toner then you need to change the drum every 3-4 toners. If using the low yield TN 6300 toner then the drum will need replacing every 6-7 toners. Hope this helps

Always try replacing the ink cartridges first.
It sounds like the print heads in the 7780 are bad. Don't confuse the ink cartridges with print heads. The cartridges fit inside the print heads. You will need to change the heads. Here is a link to HP's how-to.
Could have the same problem with the Dell.

Try cleaning the black printer heads several times in a row, at least 5 times then print a black document with best quality setting.
Press the ink button, then down to select select cleaning and then press menu/set and menu/set again to select black.
