The region code is not available online for this dvd player.hence trying wrong codes can by chance make the player stuckup or currupt .so its advisable to get this codes from the company servicenter or replacing the device.

Turn On the unit with the remote controller
Wait until "no disc" appears in the unit's display
Press Pause, 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9
The word "CODE" should appear in the display
Within five seconds, press the key that corresponds to the zone you want i.e. 0 for region free, 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2 and so on
Again, within 5 seconds, press Pause and Power
If the above fails to work then you may wish to try the following:

Put the player into Standby mode
Press 1 and Return on remote for region 1, 2 and Return for region 2, and so on. Use 0 and Return to return player to default region settings
Press P-Mode and Return to play DVD's with the selected region, auto-switching is Off
Press Audio and Return for auto-switching On
Press Angle and Return for MacroVision On
Press Subtitle and Return for MacroVision Off

There r particular code to be entered to make irt region free.and that code is available with the sevice center only.so contacting service center is necessary for making it region free.every player haS its unique codes .so code for 1 dvd player will not not support other dvd player.

Hi 1. Power on your machine
2. Press the Stop, Open/Close, Skip Forward and Skip Backward buttons on your player simultaneously and hold down for 3 seconds
3. A hidden menu should appear. Release the Stop, Open/Close, Skip Forward and Skip Backward buttons on your player
4. Select Region Number from the hidden menu and choose the Free option. DO NOT make any selections from the Initialised 'Type' menu, this can leave your machine inoperable. If you do by accident, go back to this menu and select option 1.
5. Exit the menu

To convert this player to Multi-Region if the above doesn't work

1. Power on your machine
2. Press the Stop, Open/Close and Skip Forward buttons on your player simultaneously and hold down for 3 seconds
3. A hidden menu should appear. Release the Stop, Open/Close and Skip Forward buttons on your player
4. Select Region Code from the hidden menu and choose the Free option. DO NOT make any selections from the Initialised Type menu, this can leave your machine inoperable. If you do by accident, go back to this menu and select option 1.
5. Exit the menu
6. Your player should now power itself off

You cant you have to just use it the way it is. The reason why you cant change it is because the lense itself is programed by the dvd recorder to only read region 4 dvds or blueray discs.

If the person you purchased the machine from said that it is region free and it isnt then you should take it back and explain your problem.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your location and/or where you purchased the unit would be a significant factor. If by chance you are in Australia and/or the unit was purchased in Australia, then to my understanding, "regional lockout is unconstitutional in Australia", there are no hacks, sorry.

Panasonic Australia Austlink Corporate Park 1 Garigal Rd Belrose NSW 2085. Tel: 132 600. Fax: 02 9986 7450

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,
Manual of DMR-BW500 clearly says that...
≥Playback of the following discs is not possible.
–BD-Video discs that do not include region “B”.
–DVD-Video discs that do not include region “4” or “ALL”.
&
≥The region management information for BD-Video/DVD-Video indicates that the disc
conforms to industry standards. You cannot play discs that do not conform to industry
standards or do not have a region code or number.

Now sales person didn't said some thing correct about "region free"

It should be region free, where did you get it from, I would take it back and exchange it for a different one and make sure that it is region free before taking the new one home as they should be region free out of the box but maybe you got the one unlucky one. You can also call Pansonic about this, if you need their number let me know.

Sorry should have added - I need the region free fix/code for the Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Recorder (DMR-BWT835) - without having to buy a universal remote.

Bluray players cannot be updated to add more regions. You will need to purchase a Bluray player that supports the region of the movies you are trying to watch.
