Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

Sony KP-53V45 color issues

I was given a Sony KP-53V45 recently with the statement that the picture was bad. I plugged it up and tried to adjust the Hue, Brightness, Color, etc. I noticed the reds and blues are overpowering. The whites have a red tint to them. Could this be the Green tube going out? If so, does anyone have a service manual for this tv?

When ever a tube starts to short or is shorted set always will have over bearing drive lines then shut down like RED if it was bad, set would come on long enough for red lines across set then shut down this is the same with all 3 tubes. Also if you think it might be green tube disconnected green CRT board on neck of green tube if set comes on and plays then it is green tube do all 3 tube this way one at a time this will tell you if you have other problems.

Hi,
Please open the manual of the KP-53V45 TV by clicking here. To program the channels in the TV, make sure that the cable is connected to the TV using the Coaxial VHF-UHF cable. Select the Auto Program option to program the channels in the TV. Press the MENU button select SETUP MENU and then select AUTO PROGRAM option to scan all the channels in the TV.
Thanks for contacting FixYa.

Standby light flashing

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

My KP53V45 has sound and a very faint picture all in green with a number of horizontal lines. It also shuts down after 10 to 15 seconds. Is this a projection lamp issue?

Sounds more like a color wheel, if the color wheel is not working properly the on board computer will shut her down. And will get weird colors or flickering colors.
Sometimes will also make noise.

KP-57WS520 Sony Projector - No picture

Hi,
5 times blinks shows incorrect white balance (AKB) error. TV needs Screen Volts (G2) adjustment.
Take off lower front panel, find Focus Block that has 6 control knobs, adjust Screen volts of each CRT (red-green-blue) and problem will be solved.
Be Careful while working in TV.
Let me know if you have further question.
Thanks.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

two three-pin voltage regulators near the left side (looking in from the back) bend over from the heat and short to a ground rail. Check and straighten them with the power off and the unit unplugged

Convergence problem

Patty,
Normally the common problem you're describing requires replacement of the convergence amps Ic809 & Ic810 which are both STK392-110's. But the fact that the unit makes a self-correction with a slight amonunt of pressure (touching) at the "F" connector indicates that you may just have some contacts on the convergence amps that just need resoldering.. If you're not too sure how to do this and/or it's a bit beyond your ability it wouldn't be that expensive to have a tech service that in-home.
