Question about Video Game Consoles & Games

1 Answer

I dug out my old ps1 got everything together and when I start it the screen on the tv remains blue. The television is on the appropriate channel. I can hear the console working inside but can't determine if it isn't reading the disk or if the audio/video output isn't working correctly

The blue screen makes me think that it is on the wrong input. You said channel. If you plug it into the composite inputs then it will be called "video 1" - "video 4" or however many inputs you have. So make sure again its on the correct input, and make sure that the cable you are using is clean. You can clean it using rubbing alcohol or something. Even if that game doesnt work it should have a PS1 loading screen

Blue screen says no signal. how do I change the source without a remote?

usually there are buttons located on top or side of tv, click on the main or menu button, and change the tv input to appropriate channel, refer to owner's manual make sure it is not on video1 or aux 1 as this may cause the blue screen, if there are no buttons, you will need to get or borrow the remote corresponding to that television, if using a universal, check the code you will need for that tv.

Panasonic TH-42PX75U Blue Screen

This could be a reception problem of the cable transmission or the cable box if used. Are you using cable or SAT box. Tv goes to blue screen if signal is weak automatically.

Magnavox 51" Model # 51MP392H/17 Color problems

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Nothig bu a blue screen shows when turned on

Blue screen of Death?
No, this is not windoze.

can you change channels?
a blue screen usually means that you don't have a signal.
Is it hooked up through dvd/vcr player?

Try a straight connection to cable or antenna.

If it remains, then it requires surgery.

No picture, just an abstract pattern

it depends if its just that input or the whole tv itself if it works on other inputs it may not be to bad to fix, but if its the tv itself it depends on how old it is and how much you paid. it could wind up costing quite a bit. so take all those things into consideration. it might just be time to upgrade
