Well hmmmmmmmmmm......well i hav never worked with simpletech more than once.. but well sorry to say it but you might have to go to a repair shop and ask them 2... itll run you no more than 50...because you might need to replace your laptop if you mess with it 2 much.... i have had 12 laptops and they all break because the mother board fries or because the drive is to filled with memory it wont delete anything...so whatever you do good luck

Need to reset my Windows Vista password on an old laptop. I forgot it.

Which operating system ????....

If you forget your Windows Vista password, you can reset it quickly and safely using a password reset disk or an administrator account.
Windows Vista allows you to create several accounts for different users; however, the administrator account controls system settings and manages the entire computer.
If you forget your password, resetting it allows you to create a new one to access system files. The reset procedure involves using simple password reset wizards.

Restart your computer and wait for the logon screen to appear.
Enter an incorrect password in the Password field and wait for the "User name or password is incorrect" message to appear.
Click "OK."

Click the "Reset Password" button to start the Password Reset wizard.
Insert your password reset disc in the optical drive, or if it is an external drive, connect it to an open USB port on your computer.

Click "Next" on the password reset wizard and select the password reset disk from the list of options. Type a new password and a hint for the password.
Click "Next."
Click "Finish" to log in with the new password.
Using an Administrator Account

Log in to your administrator account if you are the computer's administrator.

Click the "Start" button, type "lusrmgr.msc" (without quotes) in the search field and press "Enter." If prompted, enter your administrator password.

Double-click "Local Users and Groups" and then click "Users."
Right-click the account belonging to the user who forgot his password and click "Set Password."
Enter a new password yourself or have the account owner enter a new password he wants to use.
Re-enter the password for confirmation.

My computer keeps on restarting without my wish

Hi Davis,

I assume you are running MS Windows, which version I don't know, because you never posted that info, but MS windows up until XP was notorious for the BSOD, or Blue Screen Of Death. Is this the case with you, or is it RSOD, Red Screen Of Death, XP and later window versions.?

This is not a hardware problem, but software related.
Windows, by it's very nature is a resource hungry OS, the more programs you have runnning the more resources it needs to run, this is apart from hidden programs running in background, also consuming resources.

The only cure with MS Windows (any bloomin' version), is to upgrade your hard drive and RAM, the bigger the drive the better, 1 TB drives cost little these days, and RAM is cheap as chips, if for example you have 2 gigs of RAM installed now, ramp it up to 8 -10gigs, if your current hard drive is 700Megs, then get an external usb hard drive of about the 1-3TB capacity.

Windows is the OS that with every upgrade, has and is becoming a resource hungry OS, with many failings in it's build and structure.

I hope this has answered your query.

Regards,
Peter

I have a Dell Latitude 110L (2005). I cannot access the BIOS and do not have any discs to restore it to the factory settings to access the computer. Can you help me?

Reboot the computer into Safe Mode
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer Advanced Boot Options screen appears.

Select the Safe Mode option using the up and down arrow keys, then press the ENTER key. Choose "Windows XP Home/Professional", depending on the version of the operating system.

Press ENTER. Shortly, the welcome screen should show.
Log in as "Administrator".

Click Yes to not use System Restore Mode.

Click the Start button. Choose Run and type in "control user passwords" (without the quotes). Click OK.

Select the "Administrator" user. Click Change my password. Enter a new password in the corresponding text boxes. Click OK. Write this password down and store it in a secure place Close the User Accounts window and restart Windows.

In User Accounts select the account you wish to change the password for, click change password and then enter the new password or click remove the password to remove the password from the account.

If all else fails you may have to clear the BIOS password by resetting the RTC (Real Time Clock) IC (Integrated Circuit) on your motherboard

Many RTC's require an external battery. If your RTC is one of this type you can clear the BIOS password just by unsocketing the RTC and reseating it

Hope it helps

Pressing the call button should bring up a list of recent calls, if you want to do this using the hard drive mirroring kit, you would either have to contact someone who has don't this already or search around until you find it.

ScanDisk is a Windows utility which detects and corrects errors. Windows XP introduced a significant change to ScanDisk. The utility was integrated into the operating system. You should run ScanDisk whenever you notice a hard drive is not performing well and also on a regular basis to fix errors as soon as they happen.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Difficulty: Easy Instructions

  1. 1 Open "My Computer" in Windows XP.
  2. 2 Find the icon for the hard drive you want to run ScanDisk on. You can run ScanDisk on the system's primary hard drive and also on any secondary hard drives or external hard drives. Right-click on the icon for the hard drive and select "Properties."
  3. 3 Choose the "Tools" tab from the hard drive properties window. The ScanDisk utility can be activated from the Error-checking box at the top of the Tools tab. To begin, click the "Check Now" button.
  4. 4 Note the two check boxes displayed. You will want to choose the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" box. This will perform a basic fast scan of the drive, which will take only a few minutes.
  5. 5 Put a check in the "Scan for and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" box for a more thorough scan. With this checked, Windows XP will take 10 hours or longer to run ScanDisk depending on the size of your hard drive. Run this if you have noticed a problem with the hard drive's performance. For regular checks, run the basic check most of the time and the longer check only occasionally.
  6. 6 Hit the "Start" button to start ScanDisk.
  7. 7 Wait for Windows XP to finish running ScanDisk and view the report. ScanDisk will tell you what errors it found and fixed. Click the "Close" button when are finished viewing the report.

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini 250GB External Drive Does not show up on my computer

I have a Onetouch Mini 4, operating fine on two computers with Windows XP but couldn't get it working on Windows 7. I plugged it in and it would be recognized but a message would come up saying there were errors and to scan. Tried scanning and not scanning and couldn't get the drive to work. If I tried to open it would give me the "access denied". I couldn't get to a security tab from a folder as none of them were working.
It ended up that I wasn't listed as an owner nor had any permissions so I needed to be added to the device.

Here is what I did -

System, device manager, disk drives, right click on onetouch, properties, volumes, populate, the select on touch volume, properties, security, advanced, change permissions, add, typed in my user name - hit checked names (it fixed the format), then hit ok.

Then make sure you set the permissions for all the users.
