We own a Whirlpool Duet and after a normal wash cycle there is water in the fabric softener compartment. This occures whether we us fabric softner or not.
Some one answered that this was normal but I do not understand when we bought the machine in Aug of 2007 we did not have the problem and within the last 2 -2 1/2 months it has started. What could be causing this anomally?

Re: Whirlpool Duet Washing Machine
Its normal for this to occour, atvery least nothing to worry about, the unit "floods" the compartment to release the fabric softener, and uses a syphoning action to empty chamber, regardles sof usingor not waterenters the chamber, and depending on level determines if it empties or not

isolate electricity supply, isolate water supply.take the top off the machine.find and locate pipe/hose for fabric softener from soap drawer to drum.remove and check for obstructions.this should solve the problem.
??????? they tray comes out easily, but your saying it clogs after each use??? not na common issue, please clarify to help you further.. it is normal for the unit to retain water after cycle complete( especially if fabric softenerwasnt used in prior wash) the compartment floods and siphons each chamber during wash, so if its there no fabric softener in to "siphon out" the waterwill reamin in chamber. normal operation
Normal- the machine does not know if it's in there or not. I cannot see your repyl due to some tech issue w/ the site, so it may be a day or so before I can reply again. Please leave feedback for me if appropriate. Thanks
thats quite normal, espessially if you do not use the fabric softener, the compartment empties through an overflow siphon action, so if there eis nothing in the compartment the area is flooded but cannot cause siphon action, not an issue at all
I have this problem as well.. All washing machines manufactured nowadays are energy effficient, which means that they don't use as much water as the older models. This can result in a build-up of bacteria in the top part of the washing machine, which is clogging up the bit where the water comes through to flush the fabric conditioner into the drum. What I have to do every so often, is to take the top off the washing machine and clean out the layer of black slime that has built up, blocking the holes where the water goes into the washing machine. Another contributory factor is that the usual program used is a 40 degree wash, which is not hot enough to completely flush the machine through. Manufacturers recommend running a 90 degree wash once a month with just washing powder in iit, no clothes. Hope this is some help
