I have a GE Spacemaker Microwave oven. Everything on the oven control panel seems to be working, but the oven does not heat up anything. After turning it on for 30 seconds or so, it also has been emitting a smell similar to plastic burning. Any solution?

Everything seems working, but no heat

I have the same problem. Everything works on the microwave except no heat. A solution that is currently working for me is to first manually turn on the vent fan. When the vent fan is running, the food heats up normally. There must be a sensor or something that's bad. I wish I knew how to diagnose what to replace b/c it's prbably simple once you know what to do.

Just happened last night (1/2/09). Everything works except things to not heat up. The unit is from 2000. Is it worth repairing?

I have the same problem as the above. Buzzing noise, plastic smell, no heat. I would like to fix it if posible but need to know how to test the components that may be causing this. Any thoughts?

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it's not shorted, it's probably okay)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

My ge microwave spacemaker profile model # JVM1860BF001 stopped while in use. Interior light, clock and timer work. Door vent opens. turntable doesn't work. Won't heat.

check the breaker, or check if the wall socket works. If there is power, then you need to take it for service. There are no user service options for microwaves as they are so dangerous for both super high voltage and also microwave emission. Some models do have a pull fuse on the rear, so check for that first.

GE Spacemaker 1400 acts like everything works but does not heat.

Hello :

This happens because of a bad door switch . The plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door .

Check also the turntable . It could be out of it's right place .

WARNING :

1:Don't slam your microwave door because this may cause the fuse to blow and this is the reason of bad door switch problem .
2: A microwave is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock even when it's unplugged , so I recommend you to call a repair technician for help .

please don't forget to rate .

good luck

My GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 is not heating my food all of a sudden. Everything else like turntable, electonic display, fan, timer etc. all seems to work as normal. What do you think is wrong?

This could be as simple as a loose high voltage connection or somthing more serious, I would suggest asking a qualified technician for a quote to repair.

Use a hair blow dryer to dry out the underside of the microwave. After you are convinced that it is dry you may operate it again.

That said, if it still is acting up read this:

When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

this is something you should probably call a repair technician for, due to the danger of the componentry.

Usually in ther case of this problem, even a technician will advise you to replace the unit, in the minds of cost effectiveness and safety...

No turntable, no heat. Light, vent fan and keypad all work...

That would be a problem with your primary interlock switch or its mount.

NOTE: There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

The interlocks are highlighted in the diagram below.
