I bought new Leica M8 in UK - charged battery fine and used for several days. Now that I have returned to US, charger starts and makes usually noise - yellow light steady but goes out after short while - no more noise. Whether I take battery out in one hour or several hours, the camera tells me the battery has no charge. Suggestions?

It may not be auto-switching from UK 220V to US 120V. Try charging it up using the 12VDC car plug one time and see if that works.

SOURCE: Fuji Fine Pix Z5 battery won't charge

I looked up this question with the same problem and while the battery was placed in with the right side in, the three metal tabs weren't on the right side with the three metal chargers- so I had to spin it around the other way...i hope i'm explaining this right...now it's charging! I am so glad. This camera is excellent.

SOURCE: Battery Dont Charge

jpierre's solution (in another thread) was right on the money. Touch the positive (+)end of the 9v battery to the positive (+) end of the camera battery.Leave them touching for a few seconds (10 seconds should be more thansufficient). Seems these lithium-ion batteries are subject to a'digital memory.' Subjecting it to a volt surge almost three timeshigher seems to clear it.

In short, it works like a charm.

SOURCE: Battery will not charge

I found this while searching to find an answer to solve my problem. It worked! Some say that it took them about 20 times... it took me about 7. Be patient and just keep trying! Hope this helps!

My NP 20 gave me the flashing red light of death and I got Casio to replace it. Then I had the same problem with my second NP 20 so I dug around for a way to fix it and I found the following advice on a site called FixYa. It worked instantly and I didn't risk ruining my battery.

I had the same problem as this.
what i did was...
i kept putting the battery on the charger then took it off as soon as the red light came on.
i did this about 6 times.
doing this puts a bit of charge in the battery each time before the charger starts to flash.
after the battery as got enough charge in it it can start to charge.
hope this helps.

Here is the manual for the charger - note on page 2 the meaning of the problem you describe - time to replace batteries (depends how old they are)

That being said, check the videos out, perhaps can get it to work after all for a while longer.

The metering of my M8 is always over 1 2/3 stop, any way to make the adjustment? or have to send it back to Leica?

Leicas are norrmally quite good on metering (within the confines of spot metering).

Have you checked whether any exposure compensation has already been programmed in? I don't think it resets itself, so if its consistently 5/3 of a stop out, then it might be that.

Page 107 of the user manual shows how to adjust / check..

Manual is here:
http://uk.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/m8/download-121_2.html

If its not that, you could use that function as a short term measure to consistently change the exposure.

You don't say how old it is.... if its still under warranty (actually, even if it isn't but its still reasonably new) I'd be tempted to correspond with Leica directly (write first - they respond quite quickly) to establish what they think the problem and solution should be. The 8 went to 8.2 quite quickly (by Leica standards), so its always worth an initital sounding out (which costs nothing). If it is their fault, they'll instruct you what to do next.

Battery has not been ussed in over a year and now will not recharge

Chances are that the charger is fine....battery is junk. Had the same issue with my kids' Barbie Jeep. Instead of buying a new battery for $60, I used my Sears 12 volt drill/driver battery by locating the positive and negative on the battery and pos neg on the machine. I bought slide on electrical clips from the hardware store and WHAM....worked fine! Actually better because I have 5 Batteries for my drill and with a smart charger, it only takes an hour to charge. They were bombing all over the yard all day! I just had to keep the batteries charging every hour or so.

Acer aspire 3050 new battey will not charge

Sometimes batteries need a full 24 hr initial charge before they will work. You would be advised not to use the M/C during this period. Also it will take several charges before the battery reaches it's optimal performance.

This could be the problem so it's worth a try.
