Question about Sub-Zero 650 / O Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice behind the high humidity compartment

Ice is building up against the back wall at the bottom of the refrigerator behind the vegetable compartment. It forms a triangular shape with the peak at a tube protruding into the compartment which suggest that water is leaking from that point. It is so thick that it interferes with the closing of the drawer.

You have clogged train which has frozen over. There is a factory kit to add a heater. You firrst might want to try and defrost the tube using warm water after your remove the ice. You want to make sure that water will flow down that trough and passed the tube. THe watere goes to a drain pan below.

Water build up

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you are getting puddles of water in the back of one of the bottom shelf and in one of the vegetable drawers in your Frigidaire refrigerator. I suggest putting the crisper drawer control on the Hi humidity setting. This should allow more moisture to escape out of the drawer and not cause as much puddling. Also, check your water filter and make sure it is not leaking, as well as any moisture from the ice maker. If further troubleshooting is needed, I ask that you please leave the model number of your washer. Typically, you can find this number inside your refrigerator on the liner walls. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-
WP

I have a frost free refrigerator (MODEL #: FGTD 20V4GW2 and SERIAL #: ba00230071) yet the ice/frost builds up of the door, top and front of the freezer. Also the bottom compartment where the milks,...

if ice is on the door and ceiling and frozen water dropleats on the food packages the door was left open and the air ducts are frozen.when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing,if not it could be bad or iced up,if the ice is on the inside back wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, get back to me and tell me if the ice or like snow is just on the back wall or if the door was left open ice will be on ceiling ,door and shelves and food packages, also that's not a good model number if the freezer is on top look at the left wall up near the ceiling in the fridge section, you should see a tag there with the model number.

Whirlpool refrigerator (top freezer) is leaking into bottom of fridge. What can it be?

Hi, read about your problem. What's happening is your drain in the freezer compartment in the back behind wall is plugged. Defrost water then builds up under freezer floor and freezes. To fix, remove back wall. Also the floor needs to be opened up. Use a blow dryer to clear ice out of drain, in the trough, and under the floor. Hope this helps

There is an ice build-up underneath the humidity control drawers and the food in the drawers is freezing. It is a model RB 215 LABB. We have adjusted the temperatures of both the freezer and the fridge,...

The problem isn't the humidity control or temperature control. When the refrigerator automatically defrosts it goes through a cycle of heating and melting the ice build-up then drains this water to a tray at the bottom of the refrigerator (underneath). The drain tube that lets this water flow down to the bottom tray freezes so the ice begins to build inside the refrigerator section.

The solution to this is to defrost the tube so water can flow again. There are heating coils in the freezer section behind the plastic in the back that you must remove and defrost.

This is an inherent problem with a lot of refrigerator/freezers. You should probably have your refrigerator serviced and to check the heating capability of the coils to keep this tube from freezing. Otherwise put this on your monthly schedule of manually defrosting.

Ice forms on all the wireing behind the back wall in the freezer compartment and then the freezer doesn't stay cold enough.

Check the seal strip around the freezer door and if it's tight enough to give resistance to a 2 inch strip of paper all the way around, check the back of the unit. Sometimes, mice will climb up the tubes and eat a hole through the insulation, into the freezer. This allows room air to constantly enter the freezer, along with the humidity.

Water in refrigerator

You will need to remove the back wall in the freezer compartment. Once you have removed the back wall you will see ice build up in the drain trough area. Using a hair dryer you will need to remove all of the but be very careful not to damage the soft metal of the evaporator coils. After removing all ice you will be able to see the drain hole which will also have ice build up. Melt this ice also. A good way to help with the drain ice is to heat water to a boil. About a cup full and then pour little at a time letting it set for about 2 minutes then dry as much as possible and then pour little more. Keep repeating till water flows freely. Slow process but this will take care of your problem. Thanks and good luck. Rick

Hidden Ice build-up inside plastic bottom cover of freezer

Generally, icing is the result of too much water vapor inside the unit, blockage of the circulation channels and too much packing in of the box.  The water vapor is generally caused by: uncapped items in the fridge, opening the door too often, humid conditions, bad door seals.  There is of course, there is a possibility that the defrost cycle on the unit is not working.  About once a day, depending on the brand, you should notice that the fans and compressor don't run and you should hear a bit of creaking, sloshing or other strange noises as the ice melts.  If this is not happening, your defrost timer or the coil it heats could be bad.
