Water depth should show automatically on your sonar page.
if it does not then either you have selected "stop sonar" under your sonar options or you have opted to turn off the depth displayou so the numbers don't show up.
if you areally viewing your GPS or split screen sonar/GPS page, sometimes the depth display is not visible on these pages unless you specifically instruct the unit to display it. Lowrance HDS 5 Gen2 Fishfinder GPS Chartplotter

Make sure it is completely powering down and you are not just dimming the brightness. Are you powering off by holding down the power button until shutdown, or are you choosing power off from the popup menu and pressing ENT. Go with pressing ENT on the power off option. If you are completly powering it down for sure, there is probably a malfunction and you'll need to get it taken care of.
Unplug the power cable, and then plug it back in...does the HDS-7 turn on by itself now? If yes, there is a probably short in the keypad, likely due to water intrusion. You'll need to contact Lowrance support at 800-324-1356 or you can email them by going to http://www.lowrance.com/en/Support/Product-Support/Contact/ to get it taken care of. Give them your serial number and name and address and phone number in the email to hopefully speed up the process.
Hi- I have a 1996 Four winns boat with the same problem. I believe we are missing an adapter cable which goes from the depth cable to the instrument panel. I have not been able to locate this cable yet. If I find it I will let you know and can you do the same for me if you locate one?
All of my lowrance products ar very particular to cards. Both my I-finder and my X-15MT would not read cards that other readers would read. I finally have three cards that work and guard them very carefully. PS. I found this via Lowrance troubleshooting and received great help from a tech there. You can check the cards before registering them by placing them in your unit and see if it shows the card present.
