Have two computers to connect to a printer. One computer uses a serial the other a parallel port. The printer has only one usb port. Is there a dual cable or adapter available to make the transition?

You won't find a cable or adapter that will allow both computers to connect simultaneously to the printer. This is because the printers would interfere with each other's signals. That said, adapters are available, but not cheap. Again, the problem is the language that each type of connector uses is different. On top of that, chances are that the printer software would not allow you to select a serial port output on the printer knowing it does not support serial port interface. Same issue with the parallel port. You apparently are using very old computers if all you have is serial or parallel port outputs. You may be able to get a USB card to install in the computer(s) to provide you with a USB interface. This would be cheaper than attempting to get a pair of adapter cables and more likely to work better as well. Often the adapter cables don't work right and will cause slow printing. Also, you CAN get a switching box that can connect two USB computer ports to a single printer.

How to install my tvs msp 345 champion printer?

This is a dot matrix printer made by TVS Electronics of India. It used the older parallel port interface (and had an optional serial interface). To hook it up, you'll need a PC with a parallel port, a parallel port cable and drivers. Most PC's no longer have parallel ports, so you'd need to add a parallel port card or use a USB to parallel port adapter. Can the P2055d be connected with a parallel lead?

Most HP's if they have a port for parallel, it is a special plug on the back that looks more like a SCSI plug. If your printer has this plug you need the special cable, otherwise you will need an adapter to convert USB to parallel.

Need what type of printer cable to fix to the compaq laptop from Epson Stylus C86 so i can print from laptop

You can use USB or Parallel according to the user guide. Most laptops made recently wont have a parallel port and the cables are harder to find so I recommend USB.

Connecting the HP Laserjet 9500 hdn

This unit is meant to be used on a Parallel connection or an JetDirect Network adapter, for use over the local network.

If you want to use the Parallel port, you would need a computer which has a Parallel port on it and a Parallel printer cable.

According to the specs, this unit came standard with a HP Jetdirect 620n Fast Ethernet .

You can conect it to your router. This way all the computers can use it via the network.

HP LaserJet II p Plus will not print

Hi,

I am assuming that you are using Vista. Based on your post/description:
1. the HP Compaq 6710b has no parallel port;
2. the HP LaserJet IIP Plus is only capable of either serial or parallel connection;
3. hence you're attempting a USB to Parallel interface;
4. the printer is installed in your notebook and is set to USB port;
5. from the printer a test print can be performed but not from the Printer Properties in your notebook;
6. all printing jobs initiated from the notebook results in an "Error".

With the above in mind, may I point/suggest that:
a. Windows Vista driver will only enable your HP LaserJet IIP Plus' basic functions to work. It is not 100% compatible;
b. alternately, you can try using the XP installation CD/drivers of the printer;
c. the compatibility issue may be compounded by the USB to parallel interface;
d. the USB to parallel interface may be hampered by a known Vista USB issue;
e. you can try patching/updating the Vista USB driver. Since this has been a recognized issue with Vista, Microsoft has posted a fix for this here or here.
f. verify that the printer does not display a 22 or 40 Error.

If the printing concern has not been rectified after completion of the above procedures, you may need to:
i. download and install HP Universal PostScript Print Driver; or
ii. consider using a wireless print server connected to the parallel port of the printer; or
iii.consider replacing your printer. Sorry.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HP Laser Jet 1320n series

The HP LaserJet 1320 has a USB port and a Parallel port.

The HP LaserJet 1320n has a USB port and an Ethernet port.

USB-to-Parallel converter cables, like this one, are designed to attach a parallel device to a computer's USB port.

But you need to do the opposite (attach a USB device to a computer's parallel port). A USB-to-Parallel converter cable will not do this.
