I tried to upgrade my DVD player / recorder, but something went wrong. After it read the upgrade disk, it wouldn't reboot correctly and now will not come on at all.

I have a Lite On DVD player recorder that I tried to upgrade using their upgrade software that I put onto a disk. After installing the upgrade, my DVD player / recorder is unresponsive. Someone suggested unplugging it for a while, so I did that for an hour and it still won't do anything. It seems to be trying, but it will not actually turn on. If no one has a better suggestion, how do I find a good repair shop for it?

I oroginally tried to upgrade the DVD recorder / player because it was no longer accepting new disks for recording. It would record once or twice, and then it tried to re-format the disk and then would tell me the disk was invalid.

After trying the upgrade, which it seemed to accept, it won't do anything.

Well, if the only advise I am going to recieve is to unplug the DVD player off for a while and then plug it back in,or take it to a repair shop, then I don't think that is very helpful. I tried that and it didn't work.

Do I have to pay for the advise to take it to a repair shop? I mean, I appreciate the help, but I was looking for a solution that didn't require taking it to a repair shop from the FixYa experts. They sound like they know what they are talking about, and I need to get it repaired, but is that worth $10?

It's a Lite On DVD player / recorder, model number LVW-1101HC1. Even after unplugging it several times, it has no response, so I don't see how I can get it to do anything.

    Thanks!

For the series of right button then numbers, that didn'twork, as the front panel light is not coming on at all. It is completely unresponsive. If it would come on, I could reset it internally, but it won't come on. Sorry, those solutions failed.

I'm not sure what the comment was for about re-installing Windows. It is not a Windows computer, but a DVD Player / Recorder.

Some upgrade ends with this type of problem that the player will not be responsive at all, so what you can do here is to look for a nearest electronic repair shop on your place and they can revert that player back to its original condition...

Your firmware flash has failed and dissabled the DVD/RW altogether, power down the machine and the power up again, look to see if the LED indicator on the DVD lights up, if it does there is a very good chance you can reflash the DVD again, make sure that you have got the right firmware!!
One of my customers did exactly the same and i could ony get it to read and write DVD after that
Don't let that put you off, there is a chance you can save it!!!!

Post back with the results please

Regards

try a reset press: "right" key, then 5, 0, 0, 1 and 'enter or Right" key, then 5, 0, 2, 0 and 'enter'

or, with the unit powered on, SETUP, right (cursor), down (cursor) 6 times, right (cursor), then press ENTER (this will do a system restore)

    hope this works

take it apart and find the reset button but that is NG. also reset the power and even leave it totally disconnected with no power for a day, nothing when pluged into the outlet. The dvd player might not work if you get power back to it.
If its under warranty have it repaired, it costs nothing

Leave it unpowered for at least 5 minutes. Try it on again, if it does not give you the option to load the upgrade again, there's nothing you can do about it except have the manufacturer that provided the upgrade to take a look at it (as they should release a headache free upgrades).

Allright, sounds like it may have been a bad file or update. Why where you updating it? did it have some other issues?

Have you tried unplugging it and giving it a while, then plugging it back in?

Try that, then turn the power on and give it a while, maybe it just needs time to setup the files.

Im assuming you did all this right? They do offer online support through a chat program like Dell does. Go to there website and try it, you payed for it, use there service before giving up. It sounds like it a particular issue and most of us giving advice is for something more in general. You need to talk to them, they may have the issue alot and have a fast answer. heres a quick link ( http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?opti... ) Oh, and the reason people where telling you to unplug it and plug back in is because that is how you reset most devices in general, in your case it didnt work, sorry. I have had a few LiteOn drive in my computer before and ever one has crapped out without warning due to upgraded firmware or for just no reason.

    Good Luck

    Before you start...
You need the following items to proceed the firmware upgrade procedure.

    • A personal computer
    • Data compression utility (for example, WinZIP or WinRAR)
    • A CD-R/RW drive and writing application software (for example, NERO)
    • A blank CD-R

Download the software to your computer

    1. Click the 'Download' link to save the zip file into your computer.
    2. Unzip the .zip file and extract files (if any) into your computer.
Please do not change the filenames.

    Create the upgrade disc

    1. Open the writing application software (for example, NERO).
    2. Select File / New, and then get the following.

    3. Make 'CD-ROM (ISO)' to choose 'New' item in the right and then enter the browser window.

    4. Select all of the extracted files and drag to the left side ISO list.

    5. Start to burn by pressing the 'Writh CD' selection.

    6. Wait for the finish message.

Steps to upgrade firmware on your DVD recorder

    1. Power on the set and open tray.
    2. Insert the prepared upgrade disc and close the tray.
    3. The upgrade process starts. Please do follow the indications displayed on the screen.
    4. When the upgrade is successful, please remove the upgrade disc from the tray (if the disc is still there). Then power off and on again with the 'POWER' button.

Oh, one more thing, have you tried just holding down the power button for 3 to 5 seconds and seeing if the unit will come on. Alot of manufacturers have that as a kind of reboot function, kind of like computers when they freez. Give it a try.

If the unit is not booting correctly, firstly, have you allowed for a complete powerdown(disconnect from the wall socket for 10 mins) ro reset the unit entirely. This will allow for the new firmware to begin from the upgraded files. If this is not successful, you may need to reverse the upgrade and try again. With the make and model, I can find a procedure to facilitate this for you.

Hi again

Well done!

I am so pleased to hear that you have restored the DMR E55 and for taking the trouble to let me know. It's always satisfying to achieve something like that and I guess you'll get even more pleasure from using it now than you did before. They are good machines and well worth the effort to keep them going.

Thanks again and kind regards

Dvd keeps reading no disc

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. You will need to use CD/DVD cleaning disk for that
3. Disk is having diffrent region code or recorded in diffrent formate (for instance player playback disk recorded in NTSC, and you trying to playback disk in PAL formate)
4.Disk is recorded at higher speed (for instanse player markered X16, but disk is recorded at X24)
Good Luck

Greetings deb2531,

I had the same type of problem with my DMR-H2. Unfortunately it may be something physically wrong with your unit.

I had brought mine in to a BestBuy™service center, and they had to replace a internal part or board.

With the ever dropping costs of home theater DVD Burners it might be time to upgrade in place of repair.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Play Back

Some DVD players can't read -R & -RW disks. When you finalize make sure it is in Video mode not VR mode so the recorded disk will be able to work in most other DVD players. Also some DVD players only read recorded disks rated up to 1x, 4x, 8x, 16x, or a combination of these speeds.
