Question about Computers & Internet
I turned off my HP Pavilion before it closed down properly. Now when I turn it on it will not come up properly. It cycles between the MS Windows XP screen normally seen at startup, then goes the the HP Invent screen then the the black screen that prompt for normal setup, safe mode, safe mode with networking and Safe mode with command prompt, then back to the intial screen. Can you help me?
The simplest by far is to take the advise jtucker j has given you and tap the f8 button at the black screen. This does take you into safe mode.then it should reload windows files and come to safe mode xp.If neither ones of the advise that was aforementioned has given works, a simple restore from system restore would be easy.Simply go to accessories then system tools then system restore ,if you have files that you have wrote that are needed in the last few days this might not work for you because of loss,if not,at the bottom of the system tools is system restore.click it,go back a few days earlier when your comp was working well and look for a date (it will usually be highlighted or a bit larger in text, click on to select then continue and your comp will reboot and reload windows from the day you choose from a image of that day.then when you do come back up all files and folder will work as they did that day. hope this helps kawuna

Alright, i can help you.
First, do you have you XP CD?
You will need one, any one, or the instaltion disk that came with it that has the recovery files.
1. put xp disk in cd drive, reboot and boot from CD. You may have to hit F12 to get to the select boot device screen.
2. once the cd boots it should go into the blue winxp install screen and start loading.
3. once its done, press " R" it should be an option for repair.
4. allow system to do its thing and it will go to a command prompt. If it asks for admin password, do so and hit enter.
5. You should now be at the C:\ command prompt. Typ exactly: chkdsk C: /p and hit enter.
It should run a system disk check and repair missing files.
6. once done, type EXIT and hit enter, then when it restarts, remove the disk and when it gets to the black and white asking to choose startup. just hit Enter and it should work fine.
Let me know if it doesnt work and we can try something else.

Try starting in safe mode then when it windows starts/full loads shutdown the computer. Then restart the computer-it should start normally.
