i have a cannon power shot A540 digital camera. I have the change battery sign even after I replace two new AA alkaline batteries. Please help

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2009

sorry. doesnt work. thats basic. Duracell alkaline are better than all rechargables, since alkaline cells the non rechargables are 1.5v as required, and all rechargables are 1.2 or 1.25v. So thats not the solution. Even I am having the same prob. Even rechargables seem to run out in a few, i repeat few snaps. And these batteries are 2500ma rechargables.

You're using the wrong batteries. You need to purchase lithium batteries. They are quality batteries for high powered, battery operated electronics. Personally, I have a battery charger and use rechargable duracell batteries. (HR6/ DC1500/ NiMH/ 1,2V) Gives you approximately 16 hrs before having to recharge.

I HAVE EOS620 ,I HAVE REPLACE WITH NEW BATTERY.THE CAMERA DONOT CLICK.SHOW LOW BATTERY

Apparently this camera uses a Lithium battery, and they are prone to deterioate over time. Be sure that you have a good battery as the replacement as the batteries are monitored by a small chip built into the battery pack that will lock the battery out and prevent it from re-charging if the battery voltage falls too low. This is a safety feature of lithium batteries to prevent them from exploding if they are re-charged too fast. As an alternative, you can look at the manual at http://www.butkus.org/chinon/canon.htm. and read it on line or down load for printing as a free item.

The new battery may be no good.

I have the same problem with a Canon Powershot s20. Bought approx 5 years ago...

Many digital cameras (eg Samsung D53, Nikon 2100) have extremely poor battery life with alkaline batteries (under 20 shots!). Sometimes they won't even take a single picture.

Try using rechargeable batteries or "oxyride" disposable batteries. They perform infinately better.

Make sure that the battery terminals in your camera are clean (rub them with a pencil eraser, q-tip or micro fiber cloth). Dirty terminals can cause poor contact with your batteries, therefore, impacting there performance.

Also, if you are using rechargeable batteries, your batteries may simply need replaced. Try testing the camera with a new set of alkaline or NiMH batteries.

My canon SX110 IS camera has recently started displaying 'battery is low' and flashing the red low battery sign even a few minutes after putting in brand new batteries. I have tried with several new sets...

I had the same problem with new batteries reporting as "low" and instant shut-off. After I found that it would stay on when plugged into USB, I suspected a firmware bug in the camera (I am a computer engineer). So I thought "how can I fool it?" I then found that it would stay on if you power it up with the rotary dial BETWEEN the video and manual ("M") setting -- in the "illegal" position. The after it's on, every mode works!

Hi,
For the best results, I recommend you to use Canon rechargeable (NiMH) batteries. Rechargeable batteries provide the best performance and are the most economical choice.
Else......
AA alkaline batteries such as those from Energizer or Duracell will provide the best performance for non-rechargeable batteries.

Canon PowerShot A630 power problem: NiMH batteries no longer work

I dont agree, I have tried several different batterie types and the batteries are draining almost instantly with the camera and they are not actually being drained. I think the camera itself is at the end of its life...as I have used rechargeable batteries for the last few years and now they wont even show as being charged on the camera. It stinks Im in your same spot now...no batteries are lasting even the brand new lithium ones...it has nothing to do with the battery "juice" but something with the canon supply power not recognizing/recieving the juice. Im not a canon expert, but I think the problem is more than the battery here Steve and im confused at the solution as well.

My Canon power shot S2 IS does not detect the batteries

There is a battery charge level sensor in the DC/DC internal converter board.

It seems that just started to fail such board.

You can try with other brand or type of AA batteries.

If still you have the same problem, you will need to have replaced the DC/DC converter board on your camera. This means a Camera repair shop service on it.

Best regards,

I have Canon power shot S2 IS digital camera.I bought it around 2 years back. Now my camera is showing the sign of "change the batteries" even though the batteries are fully charged and the lens does not...

i suggest replacing a fresh battery will most likely solve your prob, overtime rechargeable battery can drain easily, try changing with a new battery and see if it does work well, there might be insufficient current, thats why it tends to drop of voltage easily upon using,
there is a specified lifetime for rechargeable battery, depends on your usage and charging method, theymaybe fully charged but sometimes wont give you enough power to drive
cheers

Low Batterie Sign

I had the same prolem. OK, try this. Try to discharge the AA batteries in some use, flashlight or else,,,,then recharge them, full charge, install the batteriers ...they should work fine....
I read somewhere that canon is able free of charge to correct a shortcircuit that the camera is susceptible to develop in the installation of batteries......But I hope the advise will work...
Remove batteries when not in use.
