Install Aftermarket Stereo in 1998 Mercury Sable

Hello all,
I need to find a way to install a newer stereo in my 1998 Mercury Sable. I currently have a radio with a tape player. With the new age, I would love to have a newer stereo and maybe even be able to plug in my iPod.

You need to buy a radio from Best Buy or somewhere. Installing on a Sable is not easy because your radio face plate is in the front but the tuner itself is located in the trunk and you need to run wires from the dash to the trunk. You need to buy a radio and $80 parts kit, but I promise it is not an easy install unless you are familiar with car audio and running wires through cars.

How do I fix the clock display on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire?

It appears to be that the radio clock display has malfunctioned, and is due for a replacement radio, which could be an aftermarket or oem radio, maybe found at a junk yard.

Tools required for oem replacement radio, torx keys set.

Before working on the radio or other electronics, disconnect the battery cables with 8mm wrench.

Replacing the oem radio is much easier, if you obtain oem radio, compared to aftermarket radio, due to being direct fit.

The radio is same for 1995 to 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the Chevy Cavalier, regardless of sub models, such as SE,GT, VL,VLX,Z24. etc.

Parts needed for the the aftermarket radio install :Stereo assembly, stereo wiring harness adapter, radio antenna adapter, and dash install kit.wiring diagram for the wire colors / functions, along with tools, such as torx key set, screwdrivers, wire crimper, wire stripper, double ended wiring connectors, hair dryer.

The oem stereo removal video is for the 2000 to 2005 Sunfire / Cavalier, but are the same or very similar procedures.

Do I need a wiring addaptor to install this stereo into my 2004 f150?

Yes, I recommend a vehicle specific wiring harness for the installation to be proper. When installing aftermarket stereo units in some vehciles, it is necessary to insure that all of the vehicles components are receiving power during normal operation.
FYI, to obtain the proper harness, you will need to provide a bit more information about your vehicle, such as 2 door or 4 door, what version of the Ford stereo is currently installed and whether or not the unit amplified.

My radio has all the bells and whistles. It is a large square box that an aftermarket radio will not fill. It seems to have no reception at all. when it gets warm it starts to recive but very weakly. ...

A used one will work, you can get the code at the dealer. As for aftermarket radios: standard aftermarket radio size is referred to as 1 din. Your stock stereo is 1.5 din. To install an aftermarket stereo in Amy car requires an install kit, in your case the kit will make up for the size difference by just filling the gap with black plastic. But there are aftermarket stereos that are 1.5 din. They will still require an install kit, but will completely fill the hole in your dash. If you're planning on getting a $99 stereo at a parts store don't bother and just find a stock one. But spend $150 on an aftermarket stereo and you'll be very happy. Good luck.

Need to know how to install my deck in my 1999 chevy suburban

The best way to install an aftermarket stereo is to go to a stereo installation store and get the in dash "metra" kit and the wiring harness adapter that allows you to connect the aftermarket stereo wiring to the factory wiring on the truck...the "metra" kit adapts the aftermarket radio to fit into the space for your particualar vehicle..the tech at the stereo store will know what all this means if they know what they are doing...To clarify, "metra" is a brand name for these kits andthey also go by the name scoshe...

put back the factory stereo if the car works then you have a model that depends on that head unite you will need to use a factory stereo by pass harness to solve this problem when you install you after market unite.this is a common issue with newer factory stereo's if putting back your factory stereo does not fix this then check all your fuse's generly there are more then one fuse box in newer cars
