The feed dogs on your machine will drop down by themselves when you put the embroidery unit on. And for machines that do not drop automatically, you have to lower (drop( the feed dogs when doing embroidery with your embroidery unit.

NOTE for those of you who are making rows of pretty stitches with your sewing machine; those are NOT embroidery stitches, they are "decorative" stitches, you need to leave your feed dogs up.

For this machine and some others the feed dogs drop automaically when the embroidery unit is attached, but for machines that don't drop the feed dogs automatically, you need to drop them manually before doing embroidery. When embroidering the embroidery unit moves the material around, the feed dogs would interfere with that.

Did you match your needle with the material? Try a ball point needle which punctures the material without breaking the threads of the material. Also, remember that not all material is suitable for embroidery work, if it stretches too much try one that does not.

Dora. The question was about having the feed dogs up or down when embroidering, the type of needle is irrevellent. Andyess, ALL material is suitable for embroidery; for really stretchy material you use a sticky backing or a spray adhesive to bond the material to the backing. I have embroidered ultra stretchy material, toilet paper, leather etc, you just need to use the correct backing and needle.

Sticky back interfacing and a brand new Schmetz or Organ 15x1PD (titanium) needle. If that won't work the machine needs servicing.

How do I Lower the pressure foot for sewing after changing from embroidery on my brother pc- 8500?

Would a manual help?

Brother PC 8500 User Manual

Are the feed dogs in the raised position? Is it a regular stitch presser foot or a darning foot? A darning foot is shorter in height so the fabric can be maneuvered without use of the feed dogs. Just some ideas. Could also be an embroidery setting that has not been deactivated.

When the embroidery unit is on the machine the "the feed dogs are raised lower them" comes on when I go to the embroidery edit or embroidery on my lcd screen and the feed dogs are down.

The problem you've explained isn't totally clear. I'll try to give help on your problem.
On embroidery machines the feed dogs are suppose to be down while operating in the embroidery mode.
When you change programs to embroidery the sewing machine recognizes this mode and automatically makes the feed dogs go into the down position.
If you are attempting to operate embroidery and your feed dogs don't go under the plate then: Try the switch that is under the storage unit and switch it to free arm.

Brother se425 feed dogs will not move

they need to be checked, may need to be timed or replaced, could also be a problem with the hook and hook race. or see if the feed dogs are in the up position to sew, in the down position is for darning.

Singer futura xl-400 should the feed dogs be disengaged when embroidering

ABSOLUTELY! The XL models of embroidery machines are supposed to automatically lower when you put the embroidery unit on, but I have had an XL-400 and currently have an XL-550 and Quintet, and I have noticed on the latter two that the feed dogs have not always automatically lowered. Incidentally, to lower or raise the feed dogs, the lever (it's in the back) goes DOWN and OVER. If you are having problems getting it move, use a straight blade screwdriver and pop the little tip off--it's not necessary to operating the feed dogs.

Also incidentally, when you raise the feed dogs, you have to turn the hand wheel towards (ALWAYS towards you for anything) several times to get the feed dogs to actually pop up. You'll hear when it does that. They lower right away, though.

I have a Bro PE 400 D. The feed dogs do not seem to be pulling the fabric through without me pulling on it. Stitches are very small even when put on a longer stitch. Embroidery Unit works fine.

check the feed dogs under the needle plate to see if there up or down
if there down then the feed dog switch need to be moved to the up position
but if there up,,,then the machine needs to be serviced so the feed dogs & stitches can be checked

Brother XL-5130 machine...cannot get it to darn or embroidery work. I covered feed dogs with the plastic cover but cannot find a lever to put down the feet. With presser foot lever down (no feet and not...

You probably do not have lever to put the feed dogs down. That's why you have a cover. To free style embroider or darn you don't need a foot but the presser foot has to be down and as you run the machine, YOU will be doing the stitching by moving your fabric back and forth. This is usually done with a wooden embroidery hoop so that your fabric stays taught. I have done it on jeans without a hoop. Hope this helps.

Feed dogs stuck in down position

The feed dogs come up as soon as you start sewing again. Just make sure they're in the up position and start sewing.
