all you have to do now is reset the modem, make sure the wireless is dissabled in device first, reset the modem by removing the mains power for 30-60 seconds, power it back up and wait a couple of minutes for it to reset istelf.
Go back to the pc and activate the wireless, it should now pick up your network, have your network key ready just in case its asks for it

    kind regards

How to Know if a Computer Has a Wireless Networking Card?

I'm not 100% but think that quite simply if nothing shows up under the wireless connectivity options and you are in range of a known wifi netowrk, then possibly not.

On a PC you can go to "control panel" then "system" "device manager". Then look under "Network Adapters" and expand the list of adapters. Look for "wireless," "802.11," "WLAN" or "Wi-Fi" anywhere in the list.

If that is there then you have a wireless adapter installed and will be able to connect to a known network if there is a networking card present.

The other possibilty is you have a card but you have no way to see the local network. if this is the case then card is damaged or the connection to the card is damaged, which sometimes occurs in laptops from being bumped around.

Media disconnected in my dos. Trying to use wifi adapter to connect to wireless router! Shows I'm connected but I'm not.

The problem you are facing , could be caused due to a corrupt wireless profile. Open the wireless utility or program through which you connect. Delete the existing connection and recreate a new one. Make before deleting the connection you know, your netowrk name and the password for the wireless router.

No internet connectn for desktop but wireless works with laptop.

If your running xp, make sure the netowrk card is not disabled, make sure you rnot using a cross over cable. use the cable you got with the routers. Try reinstalling the network card, goto dell support andenter you model to get the drivers.

1 thing to check. goto start ,control panel.
double click on netowrk conections.
right click on the main conection witch is the card in your pc, goto properties. andin the list internet protocol (tcp/ip) click this. and pres properties.

make sure in here obtain ip addres is automatically. and obtain dns is auto too.

Try this let me know how you get on.

Cant get network to recognize the cable connection

XP doesnt install the right device drivers for the NIC card (LAN card) if you have the origianl Device utilities disk, you can insert it and find those drivers (they will be checked) if no disk, use another pc and go to and enter the tag# locate the networking device drivers and its going to be a Broadcom 47xx driver. if not that try others till it works.

Wlan stoped working

try rolling back to the prevous driver

right click 'my computer' choose properties

in the system properties box that appears choose the 'hardware' tab

click the 'device manager' tab

locate the entry for your WLan adapter

right click on it and choose 'properties'

from the tabs choose 'driver' then choose 'roll back driver'

answer yes to the question and follow the instructions given.

This should cure your problem with any luck.

It is possible that you may have installed the wrong driver for your system. Re-Check with broadcom or your system maker for the correct driver.

generally unless you have a serious problem, there is no point updating drivers for some hardware unless it gives you extra functions like maybe on a graphics card for example.

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

Hope this helps

I have a Linksys for my wireless router and it is 2.4 GHz-802.11b I have no idea how to hook it up. so if anyone can help please do thank you

Hook up the netowrk cable to the Internet/WAN port on the router. The take a network cable and connect it to a port on the router , the other end into your NIC card on your computer. Restart all units and you should be able to get online.

Broadcom will only work if your laptop actually has a wireless receiver built in to it. If it does not, you need to purchase a new card for the slot. Some laptops ship with a default instruction book for all its laptops, but not all laptops have built in wireless receiver. If you are sure it does, look for a wirelss on off switch on your laptop, usually at the front or either side of the laptop shell.

Does my Aspire 5580/5570/3680/557OZ laptop support an wireless internet card? Or do I have to use a wireless router?

It does support a internal wireless mini pci card, however access is probably under the keyboard.

to see if 1 is installed, goto start, right click on my computer, left click on properties.

In Vista select device manager from left column,

XP left click on hardware, device manager.

click on the + by network adapters and see if it is listed
wirelesse.g. intel pro,atheros, broadcom, etc.

to turn it on is usually a slide switch in front next to external head phones and bluetooth.
