Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

9 Answers

SONY KP-57 WS500 Works for about 30-40 min

MY Sony Projection TV works for about 30-40 minutes if turned on after an Hour or 2 later. It works fine during this time then the picture starts fading then a flash of green comes on then whole screen goes green the picture returns to original good quality this goes goes on for 5 more minute (Good Picture) then once again picture starts fading green flash and screen goes green, Picture returns. this cycle happens 3-4 times then finally the TV goes to standby with stand by light flashing 8 times a pause and flashing again 8 times and TV put off. If I start that same moment the Picture comes back and tv works for about 5-7 min and again same routine finally goes to standby. The Picture the color composition and sound are perfect when the TV is started and till it gets in to that routine (heats up I think). The On screen error code I have checked it showed me #8 as reported error code. I resetted it to factory default and waited to happen again it once again came with #8 as error code whic matched with blinking code. Is it the D-board at fault with IC T8005 need to be changed or something else ? I have taken out D Board and checked all components for dry solder or burnout symptoms None seem to be loose or burnt out but could not check individual components and the leakyness of capacitors or resistors! visually they looked fine to me !!! ( I am sure One can not tell visually about the leakyness of circuit and circuit board components and so about the ICs)

Any solutions or any reasonable repair person !

Your Inputs are highly appreciated

Thanks a lot

Hello! there's a lot of factors why that error occurs, and sometimes just seeing it visually can't solve the problem but testing it one by one is all that counts. Let's trace the problem... 1. Focus on the power supply, from AC input to its power supply logic board, there are only three components has the source and converts power to supply to display board, its the transistor, capacitors, resistors, and diodes. If you have the digital tester, just test them all. If things okay then... 2. Focus on the display logic board. a bit difficult but its the only solution you have to figure out the main problem. Same process check the common components. If you find the messy component then it needs a replacement, all you have to is to take off that component and got electronic let them see the component and it has a replacement, then... 3. If still gone bad, it needs a repairman, look for a service center near you and ask for assistance. Good Luck!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, it would appear to be as welcomejee has described. Alternately, another possibility is the drive transistor/IC of the small PCB (printed circuit board) at the very rear end of the green CRT (cathode ray tube). This is rather difficult to access and test. However I would suggest running a simple test with the rear cover open. Power on the TV and with an insulated rod (I use a portion of an old fishing rod) poke around and on the board itself gently. If it is a cold solder, corroded terminals, loose connection, the problem would be determined.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

As you said TV gets green picture and then goes to standby with 8 times flash error code.
This is problem with Green Picture Tube (green gun) and you need to replace it.
This is not D board problem nor T8005 is defective.
You can notice few white retrace lines across the screen when it becomes green and then standby.
This is Green Picture Tube problem and green tube needs to be replaced.

A good way to check them if there are no visible signs of failure is to check the continuity of the resistors and capacitors with an electrical tester. It sounds very much to me that you know what you are doing and you seem to know what the problem is, however i will check into it for you.

kind regards

It could also be the convergence, adjust the convergence again using FLASH FOCUS.
It is recommended to perform FLASH FOCUS about 30 minutes after the
projection TV is first turned on.
Receive a TV or cable TV program.
    Press FLASH FOCUS.
The cross pattern shown below appears and FLASH FOCUS begins to
work. The adjustment is completed when the cross pattern becomes
white and you are returned to the program you were watching.
You cannot perform any other functions until FLASH FOCUS has
    completed its cycle.
If you perform any other operation while FLASH FOCUS is in progress,
    FLASH FOCUS operation is canceled.
Unshielded speakers or other metallic objects can cause picture
distortion if placed close to the projection TV.

    kind regards

This means a "high voltage" error. The D board would need replacement/service as it is your fly back transformer that is bad. If you need further assistance or help locating a service center let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thanks,
Lee

The error your stating has nothing to do with a convergence ic it sounds like someone doesn't know what they are talking about please do not take that advice as this is why sony uses the error code system to make trouble shooting much easier.

Its the problem of convergence ic on the main board of the tv and it needs to be replaCED.also any of the capacitor is getting heated up and creating this on.off problem.that has to be checked on the main board and replaced.

The screen turns blue after about 2 minutes of turning on the TV

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.
