Power window on Dodge Ram 1500

How do you know you need a regulator? Sometimes the window will pull out of the track and fall down in the door. Spread the door slot with a screw driver just enough to see down inside the door Take a bright light and carefully operate the window up and down..CAREFULLY remember if the door is off track, the track still will move up and down and could wedge and break or scratch the glass...if it isn't off the track or is..the inside door cover must be removed..to get at the mechanism...it can be done by a DYS ER but will,take some time and understanding of the system ..then some professional type adhesive to keep on track ..you can find a window place for that... got to take the door panel off to access the down window not a hard fix Chrysler Plymouth and Dodge all have that problem its a little plastic tab that break causing the window to fall you will need the window regulator.

The motor and regulator need to come out here is how to do that.

1. • 1Gently remove the door panel of your Contour, ensuring that you don't break the three door clips that hold it on. As you pull the panel from the door, support the panel from below. This will ensure that none of the wiring inside the door is damaged. Release the wiring from the components inside the door, including the power window mechanism, power lock mechanism (if equipped) and the stereo speaker. Place the door panel in a safe area with the clips so they are accessible when you are ready to replace them.
     
   • 2Remove the window glass by sliding it up and out of the door. Support the glass from the bottom so it doesn't drop and break. Window glass for a Contour can cost around $150 to replace. After you remove the glass, put it in a safe place. You may want to wrap it in old towels or blankets to protect it until you are ready to reinstall it.

   • 3Unplug the wires from your Contour's window motor, and remove the screws from the window motor and regulator. Remove the power window motor and regulator from your Contour to make way for the new parts.
     
   • 4Install the new window regulator into the door, and replace the screws that held them in place.
     
   • 5Replace the window glass into the door, and connect it to your Contour's power window motor and regulator assembly.
     
   • 6Replace the door panel. Reconnect the wiring for the power window and power lock controls, and replace each clip that connects the panel to the door.
     

Figure out whether it is power (button) or manual (crank). go to ebay and search for "new window regulator 99 dodge ram". buy one and take it and the dodge to an auto glass shop, found in yellow pages, and pay them 60 bucks to remove the old one and put the new one in..

If you can hear the motor running while pressing the window switch you may have a broken clip or something in the way causing the window to slip off track. If no sound comes while pressing the window button you may need a power window regulator motor "OR" the window button itself may need replacing. If the window was down when it stopped working and had to be manually rolled back up, this can cause the glass to randomly fall back inside the door. This is because the car thinks that the window is still down and will continue to fall until it tells the computer that the window was closed using the power window button. If the window falls at just the wrong angle you could end up having to replace the glass as well.

I had the same problem on my 97 Ram. Take the door panel off, get some liquid nail, squirt just a little into the two clips that hold the glass. Then set the glass back into the clips and run the window up almost to the top so you can still get your fingers on top of the glass. Run it all the way back down again putting a little down pressure on it. Now run it all the way up, put the panel back on and let it sit for a few days before you roll it down again.
You have to run it up and down to make sure the clips are in the proper position, if yours is as loose as mine was it will slide around in the clips pretty easy.

Sounds like somebody was breaking in. You have to get the door panel off so you can see what is going on in there. If the door is unlocked, maybe a slim jim will catch the handle and get it open. If the window motor is shot, or the gears, try pushing the window down by hand. if not try it with the switch. Get the window down and the door open, pull the panel, get the handles fixed and then the glass. Hope this helps.

Check wire loom coming through to door at hinge end of the door from pillar, and see if you have power going that far to switch. Not uncommon to find a worn, cracked, or broken wire in that loom where it bends constantly with opening & closing door.

Sounds like the link rod to the latch are jammed in the locked position by something inside the door or it came off. Any way, you have to remove the door panel to get access to it.

the channel came off the glass you have to take the door panel apart either screws or pop the clips out with a panel tool from parts store about 3.00 and then put the glass back on the channel track,make sure the foam rubber is holding the glass in tight or purchase more rubber,about 3 hour job.
