Question about Fuji Digital Cameras

8 Answers

I have a Fuijifm Camera/finepix A345 with 4.1 Mega Pixel. The zoom lens is stuck in the closed position. When you turn the camera on, it states Zoom Error. The camera will still show the pictures on the memory card, but will not allow me to take new pictures.

Thanks for the quick response. I had tried to work the lense move by palming it with out success. The idea of removing the back and looking at the gears is not possible with out some type of special 3 prong tool. A typical small phillups screw drive will not work. Question: where can I obtain a special 3 prong tool to remove the screws take off the backof the camera?

  • davidlee1018 Dec 02, 2008

I will purchase some fresh batteries and give that I try and report back.

  • davidlee1018 Dec 02, 2008

I purchased some new AA barriers over and put in the camera with no improvments.

Zoom lense does not extend, and lense does not open. Read out is Zoom Error.

    Any other suggestions?

Thanks for sending the tool list: A couple of problems is I don't know

which tool has the three prong head to remove the screws, and if I

could open the camera, and the probabilities of me fixing the gears seems remote.

If there is not quick fix, I would like to know where to send me camera for repair

and how does the repair service work. My camera is several years old and out of

warranty. Need the specific such as:

    - minimun charge,

-what happens if they can not fix it

    -shipping and handling charges.

End of the day, I have to determine how much is this going to cost to get my camera operational.

  • davidlee1018 Dec 02, 2008

I have accepted that I will not be able to fix with a tap or a slap.

I requested in my last comments as where would I send this camera in to

be serviced and what are the details of that service.

  • davidlee1018 Dec 03, 2008

I am confussed. I have asked twice now to get the name and address of a place that I can send my camera into be serviced. I have also asked for the particulars as to how the service works. i.e

    - is there a minimum charge,

    - any guarantee

    - what are the shipping and handling charges

  • davidlee1018 Dec 03, 2008

I am not 100% satisfied with service. I have asked several times now for the name and

address of where I can send my camera into be fixed, and this request has been ignored

3 times. Please credit my Visa account back or the $9.99. When I applied, it statement

100% satisfied or your money back. I want my money back.

I am tired of trying to work with this service.

    Thank you.

Face the camera lens towards the floor and firmly tap on the back of it while tunring on, make sure you have new batteries or that the battery is fully charged, you may have to do this a number of times before it releases the zoom. Camera's require specialist tools to open them up, you may have to get it serviced

It is the lens motor their is something stick in the lens motor,
the best option is to take it to the customer care.

and avoid turning on the camera in this condition as it can make it worse..

The 3 prong tool is called three wings safety screwdriver , and is not available to the user for a reason.

If you disassemble your camera you will probably transform it in a bunch of bits and screws.

To start verify that teh camera is not on PC mode, in thas case lens not extending would be normal.

The problem that you have is a jammed or defective lens assembly.

User level solutions are slapping the back of the camera with the palm of your hand whilst you turn camera on .
Try also helping out the zoom with your finger nail.

If that does not work I can understand that you may wont to proceed to disassembly, that is what would be done at a repair shop, but I must warn you that there is a very high risk of damaging the camera.

First you need to buy a security screwdriver:

Triwing Screwdriver Tri wing Screw Driver for ... $1.99 - eCRATER.com 1 inch 3 Tri Wing Insert Bit 13279 by Eazypower

$1.27 - HardwareAndTools.com

Triwing / Tri-Wing Y Screwdriver - Mini Tri ... $4.39 - CellPhone-Store.com ...

To access the lens assembly you should buy service manual and follow schematics : FinePix A345 :: FUJIFILM

To give you an idea here you find disassembly for different models:

Wait, be patient, you know that this is not a job for us, and that we are not always online.

Your camera is a Fuji, therefore the best thing to do is sending the camera to Fujifilm, rather then contacting an independent repair.

I agree, if its jamed you could bump or knock it slightly to jar it loose but his may damage it so be carefull.

Have you tried using fresh batteries or pluging it into a power source and then trying to use it?

If applicable, i would send it in for repair as the tiny components and light sensors could be damaged if you mess around too much with it. If its under Manufacturers warranty, just send it in rather than Void it by opening it up

Good luck

You could try localy looking for a camera repair shop, ask if its a model they can work on and how much, obviously if its more than its worth dont do it. try a google search in your area like " Camera repair in ( your area ).

Some maw and pop shops will probably cut you a better deal than some retail store or business

Well, again, its based locally, you will need to search the phone book for something local who can repaire it.

If you want to send it off somewhere, there are literaly hundreds to chose from online.

I have always repaired mine myself but mine is an old fashioned not digital.

You could try the manufacturer and sending it to them, but Cost to send it to anyone may be moret han its worth depending of course what you spent on it.

This site is desihned more for tips, tricks, helpull insight and solutions that can be done before resolving to send it off. Not a personal search engine for other services.

Im not trying to be mean, but you need to look localy yourself, you know your area better. If its wanting to send it off to some company for repaire, you are putting your camera at risk unless its to the manufacturer. just google it, call them up and send it off.

If its new, i would go for warranty repaire, most manufacturers include a 1 year warranty.

Sorry we couldnt lick the stamp for you

    Good luck

The gears are jammed or stuck. You can first try bumping it gently on the palm of your hand to see if it will start to work. Otherwise you will need to remove the outer panel open the camera up and get to the gears that move the lens and manually turn them and unstick them to get the lens back out, which it hopefully will start working again. If not, then you may have a broken gear or a worn out motor. Please let me know of any questions that you may have while doing this. thanks

You can send it directly to the manufacturer. You should have the number with the paperwork and they can give you an address to ship it to and also a quote on how much they will charge or expect to charge you.

Depending on where you live will depend on where to ship it and how much it will cost, especially if you live in a different country, please click on the website I posted to get a number to call to ask all of these questions. I am sorry that we can't be more specific but it depends on many things.

Zoom Error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Zoom error

worked on allot of fuji's. first detease, a gear is slipping in the lens retract assembly due to a crack or wear or jam

2nd guest .. zoom errors means its really stuck tight

the gears can be ordered and replaced and one more possibility is that the motor that drives the gear is bad
Also if dropped or zoom lens jammed hard... lens assembly needs total realignment or replacing..

Zoom error

I had sent my camera in for the same issue and they did nothing to help with it. Seems to happen when battery gets low or dies, lack of on-screen battery meter doesn't help. Typically have to manually twist the lens to close it or open it after fresh batteries installed and then seem to fix it.

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

Fuji finepix A600 camera - Zoom error

I had the same problem turn up after a few weeks. When I used the zoom button, the lens pushed out again and the camera worked normally for that time. I had to go through that procedure every time I turned the camera on.
I then sent it back on warranty and they replaced the lens assembly as well as the mode dial knob etc.
This camera has a 3 year warranty.
good luck...

The lens on your camera has become stuck due to being dropped, contamination such as sand, or a malfunction within the lens. If gently manipulating the lens itself does not free it then you will need to get it professionally repaired or replace the camera. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
