Hello, This is somewhat involved and time consuming, but if you are handy, it can be done. First unplug the dryer then start with the two screws in the hinges of the door and then the door lifts out. Two screws on the opposite side holding plastic spacers. Once these four screws are out the front panel tilts right out. The front panel will come off then 4 more holding on the front tumbler support and air duct. Removed wires from light and dryness sensor and clips holding wires to panels. Pull out the tumbler and removed belt. If your dryer gets a lot of use, then you might want to keep going and replace some more wear items while you have it apart. Remove the two drum support rollers and shafts by removing a nut on the back side of each shaft. Remove snap ring off each old shaft, install new rollers and fiber washers onto new shafts, reinstall snap ring and replaced on brackets with the old nut. Remove tension spring off idler pulley bracket and one screw holding on the bracket. Install new pulley and fiber washers on new bracket and reinstall bracket and spring. Placed new belt on tumbler and reinstalled tumbler. Used drill and bit to drill out pop rivits holding on the two front glides that are attached on the front tumbler support and installed new glides and pop riveted in. Reinstall front support and air duct checking that felt tumbler seal front and rear are in place. Placed new belt on motor pulley and idler pulley. Reinstall front panel.

I followed this guide but in addition I found that there were 6 screws not four holding on the front tumbler panel and two more long ones that were fixing the panel to the air duct. Once these and the tumbler shroud were removed I found that removing the two Lid hook securing brackets allowed the lid to be raised which made the tumbler removal much easier. As mentioned above this is a good time to replace any rollers of bearings and vacuum excess dust from the chassis. Even though OI changed the belt the main reason for the removal weas an annoying squeek which was traced to the Idler Pully Wheel and bearing which was corroded. once this was replaced and all reassembled the unit was thankfully quite again. One final tip make a mental note of the belt formation around the Pully and Drum before removal this held me up during reassembly trying to work out why the belt was so slack.

MDE5500AYW Maytag Neptune not heating. Heating Element, both high limit thermostats and thermal fuse have been replaced. What could be the problem?

Firstly, you have not mentioned that you have verified the presence of a power source of 240 volts, so make certain of that issue. If you have proper voltage, then the motor centrifugal switch could be at fault

How to replace motor on maytag mde5500ayw dryer

I will sent you the procedure of how to repair the belt, it will take you to where you can also check/repair/replace the motor.
I have also included a link to the pictures of the routing of the belt.
http://www.applianceaid.com/images/belt-config.JPG
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you hear a loud bang while your dryer is working, and you notice that the
drum has stopped turning, chances are the drivebelt has snapped.
Fortunately, replacing the belt is a fairly straightforward operation that
can be handled with a few simple tools.
First, unplug the dryer. Lift the lint-screen cover and pull out the lint screen
If your dryer has a lint screen on the inside of the door, skip this step.
Then remove the two screws that are under the cover. To unlatch the dryer top,
insert a thin-blade putty knife between the top and front panel,
about 2 1/2 in. in from one corner. Push in on the knife to release the locking
clip, lift the corner, then release the clip on the other side. Swing the top
up and lean it against the wall.
Next, move to the lower toe panel. Slip the putty knife between the lower panel
and the door panel at one side and twist the knife to release the clip
Then release the opposite clip and lift the panel up and off the hinge springs.
To support the dryer drum while the belt is being replaced, place scrap wood
under the front of the drum.
Loosen the two screws at each side of the bottom of the front panel.
Move to the top of the panel and remove the screws from the inside of the
cabinet that hold the front panel to the sides.
When you get to this point you will take the drum out and after you do the drum
rollers and idler pulley bracket, and motor will be exposed, be sure to oil the drum
rollers at the shaft with a good grade of machine oil...3 in One oil for example.
This will save you at a later time having to do that job because they will start making
noise.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slide the old belt off the drum.

Installing the belt
Lean the front panel out slightly and allow the drum to rest on the scrap wood
support. Drop the new dryer belt between the front panel and the drum, and
loop it over the drum. Then, lift the drum slightly while pushing the front
panel back into position.
Replace the screws at the top inside of the front panel, tighten the lower panel
screws and remove the scrap wood from under the drum. Check to make sure that
the rear drum seal fits properly over the lip on the rear bulkhead.
Position the new belt where the old belt was, with the grooved side of the belt
facing down.
Now, move to the motor area and pull out the old belt. To route the new belt
around the idler and drive pulley, first pass the entire belt, doubled up,
under the idler pulley. Then, push the idler belt toward the motor, slip the
belt around the motor pulley and release the tension on the idler pulley.

Open the dryer door and rotate the drum counterclockwise a few times to make
sure the belt is tracking properly. Lower the top and press down at each
corner to engage the clips. Lift the lint-screen cover, replace the two screws
and reinstall the lint screen. Finally, secure the lower front panel and turn
on the dryer for a test.

How to unscrew blower wheel from motor shaft Maytag MDE5500AYW dryer?

If its this type that screws on, go to the front of the motor
remove the belt and attach visegrip pliers, lay dryer on its front ,
remove panel down to blower and put your right hand fingers
inside the blades and snap the wheel to the RIGHT
Be careful you can get a bad cut from the wheel housing.
This is the way I do it all the time.

Your dryers uses rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time. Idler pulley your dryer has a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it. Rear drum bearing. There are videos of the testing and replacing of these parts at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the troubleshooting and replacement of these parts Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. This brings us to the last problem could be the blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time.To check this grab the wheel and see if theres any play . But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you need to replace it. If you need diagrams or illustrations of your specific model you can also enter your model # there.

My Maytag dryer model number MDE5500AYW has lights on, but won't switch settings. It is stuck in time dry at 18 minutes. Yesterday it was on sensor dry 47 minutes. Do I need a new control board inside...

OK, your control board and LED are integrated, so you will need to just replace the control board. I would try a hard reset before replacing the board. Pull the plug or, shut down the appropriate breaker switch for 5 minutes. Re apply power after the 5 minutes are up. if you continue to experience this fault, replace the control board asap.

I dont think you broke the belt, I think it may have just come off the belt tensioner. Take the bottom of the back panel off and I think you will see it hanging in there. Just put er back on.
