Hi,
Basically this fault occure due to malfunctioning of zoom motor. And you have to replace the optical zoom lens complete assymbaly.
Or secondly just tell you the trick,Most of time it works and some time its not.
Dont turn on your camera from power button. While power turns off press the play button from which you see the pics. The camera will turn on and show you the pics folder but the zoom will not open, Then shift it from play mode to pics taking mode and the zoom will then comes out.

 Thanks for using fixya.

Remove the memory card then remove the battery. Wait for about 5 mins then replace the battery and make sure that the cover is secured then try to power on again. Please provide the brand and model of your camera,

Fast flashing green light when trying to charge

usually fast flashing charge is faulty battery its trying to get volts in to the battery. you see the battery has a charging board on the battery not in the camera the camera sends the volts to the battery and the battery tells the camera its voltage, and when at the right volts stops charging. but these batteries can only be charged to around 10000hrs depending on the type of battery. you see when you get a new battery you need to charge it before use, now this can be 6hrs to 12hrs for fist time use if you interrupted the charge or have a power cut while it charges it can damage the charging chip in the battery. if this does the flashing light on other batteries then the signal is not being read by the camera and the camera can be faulty on the charging circuit, usually (sometimes) removing the battery for a few hours can fix this but it will rest the camera. hope this helps you.

Hi,

I suggest you to once try switching over to 2500 mAh Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries. you will see a difference.Digital cameras with zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by ordinary batteries.

The manual does not indicate what is wrong, when the green light is flashing, other than the flash is charging.
It could be the flash can't be charged, because the flash capacitor is defect, or the battery does not have enough power.
Try switching on the camera while not in automatic mode (M of so) or when in video mode. If the light on the main dial still flashes, I think you should look for another battery. But first try another battery, before you buy one. (Or test the camera with an external power supply. Don't forget to switch of the camera, every time you change the power supply.

Nikon j1 flash not working

Does the flash ready indicator also stay off, after you opened the flash and pressed the shutter release button half?
Because that could indicate there is not enough power in the battery to charge the flash.
If the light comes on, and still the flash does not fire, there would be a serious problem. My guess; that only can be solved at the service centre.
To be sure nothing else is wrong. Charge the battery first.
Then switch on the camera, open the flash, select fill in flash and press the shutter release button half. If the flash ready indicator lights, press the shutter complete and see if it works.

Succes

Screen black. Power light on unit flashes red slowly. Power light on switching adaptor power supply flashed green slowly.

Sounds like the battery might be low which would cause the red flashing light and dark screen. Let it charge for a little bit then try turning it on again. If it still does it with the power supply plugged in, make sure there isn't a lens cover on it, and switch modes or try getting into the menu to see if you can get anything to come up. If that still doesn't work then it sounds like there might be a problem with the camera.

Camera turns on then off immediately

Make sure that you are installing a fresh/ full charge battery
Remove the battery
Clean the metal contacts on the battery using a clean cloth

Pls test with an alt. batt.
If you do not have access to a dif. battery.
Pls. take the batt out of the camera. Insert the charger into the unit from the main socket and turn the camera on. If the camera works you will need to replace the batt. If not you will need to order a No power repair.
