I had the same problem if you want to look on ebay i think linksys makes a portable router for about 200 dollars. Otherwise you should use internet connection sharing with windows XP. You can find all the information you need to set this up on you computer by using yahoo. It is kind of a pain to setup and you have to keep the computer your modem is connected to on if you want to have access to the internet through your other computers but it cost nothing and saves you 200 bucks.

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.
The easiest solution would be to use an ethernet connection. A second problem is probably on most cable modems you can either use a USB connection OR an ethernet connection you cannoot use both at the same time.
Just plug the cable modem ethernet into the input to your router and you will be fine. Just remember, if you decide you want to make any changes to your router settings through your browser, make sure you hook up an ethernet line from your laptop to the router before making any changes. The reason for this is if you make a change in security settings on your router while wireless, the router will reboot and if your laptop did have the settings changed in it, you can be locked out. Not that you can't get back in, but it is a pain to have to do.
