Question about Grills & Smokers

Gas shuts off

My Smokey Mountain Smoker Model 3600 has worked great for about 3 years. Now When I light it the flame stays on for about 5 minute and then goes out. This problem will just repeat itself. Any solutions

Try turning on the gas at the tank with the burners turned off. Wait a minute or two for the pressure to equalize and then turn on the burner and try lighting it. It should work. If not check the venturi and see if an insect or spider might have blocked it so the air mix is interrupted. It may be that your regulator needs replacement. If you have a gas grill that works your might try switching them if they have the same size fittings and see if it works then. New regulators can be found at LP gas dealers, hardware stores, and the big boxes like Home Depot, Menards, Lowes and Wall-Mart.

When turning off any gas grill it is best to turn off the tank first, then the burner after the flame is out. This especially applys to the tanks with the overfill protection device.

Good Luck

How to fix a leak on a Great Outdoor Smokey Mountain propane smoker?

Goop will seal the hole and it will work (I use it for many fixes) the problem is that where there is a hole the metal is probably corroding and there is another spot that will go soon. If you can't find a direct replacement, have someone make one for you (unless you can do it yourself) until then get a tube of Goop (household) patch the hole and let it dry overnight.

Hi,
I takes lots of practice to use a charcoal smoker, but don't let that stop you! I go on professional competitions and started out by checking the "Virtual Bullet " website. This site is for the Weber Smokey Mountain cooker but you can get ideas from there. Hank

I have a Great Outdoor smoker that won't get hot.

I had the same problem with mine. I took the burner assembly at the knob apart and cleaned it and that worked for me. The grease from the meat dripped down on the gas orifice and hardened reduced the amount of gas being jetted to the burner. Hope this helps

Solution #1 is the answer -- replace the regulator. The problem is that the regulator is stuck closed. You can either replace it, or pop the little metal cap on the top off and adjust it. (Use a large philips screwdriver). Do a full turn counter-clockwise, and then 3/4 of a turn clockwise.
