Ok, I own a Riccar 8850 and the brush stopped. I suspected the cleaning lady burnt the belt. I took off the bottom plate and installed a brand new riccar belt the belt is going fine when I turn on the machine. The brush at first moves and then it stops after five or so seconds. It looks like the belt is slipping from the outer part of the vacum to the inner-part. When the belt moves, the roller brush ceases. How can I resolve this issue?

I see this same problem posted repeatedly here. The only solutions offered are to "change the belt". When most people state that they've changed the belt and still have the same problem the recommendation is usually "are you sure you changed the belt correctly?".

Bogus. This is a major design issue with the Riccar 8800 series vacuums. It has something to do with the roller and clutch assembly. Either people must replace these every 3-4 months, as they fail at a cost of $50+, or there is another solution and this solution is something other than "change the belt".

Thats one of the best vacuums out there.

Take off the bottom plate and you'll probably find that the belt has either come off, broke, or completely stretched out.

If thats not the case, comment back, but I think you'll find that it is.

Good Luck

Beater bar not turning with belt

If it spins freely the belt is probably broken or it needs adjusted or has a worn part. This is an inexpensive thing for your Riccar dealer to do when you have your vacuum serviced.

Belt spins, roller does not

The belt has probably lost elasticity or the clutch needs adjusted or a new rubber pad.

Replacing a belt on the Riccar 8850...I see how the brush assembly will work with the new belt. But I don't see how a new belt will turn on the small rod extending from the motor. Is there a pully missing?

There is not a pulley missing, when the belt is tight the shaft will turn the belt but when the belt loses elasticity it will slip on the shaft when being used on the carpet. Replace the n
belt at least once or twice per year.

No suction on carpets

The reason it doesn't pick up on the carpets is because the belt is stretched or worn and can't turn the roller brush against the resistance of the carpet. Here is a link to the replacement belts you need:

No suction

Replace your belt. Remove the baseplate, remove the brushroll, place a new belt around the motor pulley, then around the pulley on the brushroll, and pull the brushroll back into place in the nozzle. Spin it by hand to make sure it spins, (otherwise you'll break the belt again,) and then replace the baseplate. Party.
