PROPER WAY TO START TRIMMER.

Pump the primer bulb on the carburetor at least 7 times....set choke lever ( the yellow lever on the air cleaner) to the down start position....pull start handle till it fires....let machine run for about 30 to 45 seconds before you open the throttle to give it a chance to warm up....that's it !!! ;-D

Ryobi 30cc was running ok and then cut out. Not been able to re-start since

First check vent in fuel cap to make sure it is not clogged, then check to see if fuel filter inside the tank is obstructed or if fuel intake line has softened and is possibly collapsing...pump primer bulb and see if it is sucking gas into the carb...next choke engine and try to start...if it doesn't start pull the spark plug to see if cylinder is getting fuel...if so re attach plug to the plug wire and ground plug to cylinder head....pull start handle and check for spark at electrode of plug....or put a little gas in plug hole and re-install plug ....pull starter handle a couple of times and if engine starts and runs for a second, you have spark....Your problem sounds suspiciously like your carb has ingested some trash and is clogged which will necessitate a good cleaning and re-tuning...possibly a rebuild...Hope this helps... ;-D

Starting problems . never used it before just need simple instruction

  1. Fill the tank with fresh properly mixed fuel.
  2. If equipped turn the switch to RUN or ON
  3. Make sure the tank is full of fresh fuel mixed per directions.
  4. pump the primer bulb until resistance is felt and fuel is seen pulsing through the lines without bubbles.
  5. pull the cord sharply and repeatedly until the motor "hits" on one of the pulls
  6. set the choke half closed
  7. pull the cord sharply until the motor fires and idles.
  8. allow the engine to idle until it will warms up and will idle when you slide the choke all the way open.

What does the symbols mean on the controls

the on off switch has a o and a I The o is off and the other is on

as for the other three you have a from right to left on the main body full chock the half chock the run prime it 7 times on the primer ball with the full choke on the pull crank cable 3 times then move choke to half choke then pull until it starts if after 10 pulls it doest start out back to full choke and sart again if and when it startes let it rund for about 15 secs on half choke then move to run If after all that and you have done it a few times and it still doesnt start get rid of it as it is a totally rubbish tool I know i had one for 6 m onths used iit 3 times then i bought a stihl.

Forgot how tostart it

Ensure you have the correct Fuel / Oil mix for your machine first.

Find the choke knob and turn to the closed position.
Find the Primer Bulb and pump it until it is full of fuel, once the bulb is full give it 3 pumps (If the primer bulb is already full of fuel just give it 3 pumps)
Make sure the ignition switch is in the "I" position and not the"O" position.
Pull start! (should take no more than 3-4 pulls before it fires)
Once it fires it may die instantly.... if so cancel the choke and pull start (should fire again on first pull)
If it does not die and it keeps running, cancel the choke while maintaining the engine's rev's.

Hope this helps.

It wont start

First, make sure that the gas mixture is correct (gas and oil mixed in the right proportion). Next, press the primer bulb 3-4 times, turn the choke lever on to Full Choke, and pull the starter cord until the engine seems like to wants to start, but dies. Next, switch the choke lever to Half Choke and start the gas trimmer, giving it gas by pulling on the trigger. Once it has warmed up fully, you may be able to reduce the Half Choke to No Choke, although my 20+ years of experience with dozens and dozens of models tells me that many trimmers run better, although smoking slightly, when you keep them at Half Choke. One last tip, when pulling the cord, try pushing the trimmer away from you with the opposite hand at the exact same time that you are pulling the starter cord--the equal and opposite push-pull technique may sound like something from karate (and it is, in a way), but it is really helpful when trying to start trimmers. Best of luck, Bill

PS: Check you owner's manual (at home or online) for the proper gas/oil mixture. Empty any old gas out and replace the spark plug, if required.

Give lots of details when describing the problem. When it started, was the choke on? If the choke is on, try starting it with the choke off, or starting it with the choke on and immediately taking the choke off when it starts, but keeping your fingers on the choke so you can turn it on again if the motor begins to die. As others have described, you have a problem with the mixture screws not being set right or the carb diaphram being damaged. Your owners manual may tell you what settings to start with on the mixture screws, or you may be able to google the model number and get the manual online if you don't have one. At this point you should have taken the carb apart to look for problems and blow out the air and fuel passages. You are making progress. At least you know that it is getting spark, and getting gas. I am not familiar with that model, but many of them have three settings for the choke, fully on, half on, and completely off. If you have that type, after it starts and dies, take out the plug and dry it, then try starting it with the choke half on. You will need to clear out the excess gas while you have the plug out.
