Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

1 Answer

Not Printing some characters

I have a IBM Wheelwriter 10 series II that will not print some of the characters such as period and comma. I have read that there is a plastic cap or something that breaks but do not know where it is located. Could you give me some direction and do you sell the replacement?

You can get the cap from us, however try getting some lube on the front or the solenoil plunger they do gum up.

Bottom part of lower case letter not printing

If the problem is just one character that is not printing the bottom then the printwheel is damaged and will need to be replaced. If it is all of the characters then the platen (roller) may not be snapped down on either side.

Your print solenoid probably has a broken cap. There are some companies that sell the "kit" with instructions on how to replace the cap.

Show me where the solenoid is on the IBM Wheelwriter 10, Series II typewriter

If you are asking about the print solenoid. Remove thr ribbon, below the ribbon just inside thr L. printer frame. It's about an inch & 1/2 in diam. and about 3/4 inch thick and silver.

When typing, all of the letters do not print,

There are two possibilities, Most likely the print solenoid cap is broken but the solenoid may just be gummy. The sol. is just inside the L. printer side frame just L of the selection motor, just in front of and directly below the small blue rubber damper. Spray some WD40 on the rear of the solenoid. If that dosen't help we sell the solenoid cap with shipping and instructions for 20.00.

If it is printing just the tops the platen may not be fully seated in the side frames, press down firmly on both ends of the platen.
If it is just printing poorly the print solenoid cap is cracked or the ribbon may not be feeding properly.

Check in the area where the printwheel is installed for paper or other debris. If it does the same thing with the printwheel out then it is probably a printwheel sensor.
