Well if by dumping you mean getting your data to someplace else the answer would be yes. You can buy what's called an external drive enclosure. That way you can remove your drive from the underside of your laptop, pull it out and put it into this enclosure.

After you do that (remove and put the drive in an enclosure) you can plug this enclosure via usb to another computer and get your data.

(or add some more details and I'll flesh this out more)

Newegg.com, look for external drive enclosures. They are about 19 bucks on newegg and about 40 at a local dealer

Hi there!

You can try to get an enclosure for you hard drive so that it will work just like a thumb drive then you'll be able to get your files or you can bring your laptop to a local repair shop and get it check if it can still be repaired or if they can extract the files from it.

Hope this helps!

My dell latitude 120L keeps freezing. When I then unplug it and leave it for a while it starts up again but freezes shortly after. Possibly overheating? How can I tell if overheating is the problem and...

Overheating problems are hard to diagnose, and in some cases hard to fix. One recommendation I can give is to use a compressed air can to clean out dust from the vents on the outside of the computer. If that does not work I would recommend taking it to a professional PC repair shop.

Dell Latitude D500 won't switch on. Lights come on for about 10 seconds then automatically switch off. Plugged into mains and battery charging light is on.

Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
etc....
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately

SYSTEM WON'T BOOT UP COMES TO A REGISTRY ERROR AND DUMPS MEMORY TO DISK. DIAGNOSTIC TEST GETS FAIL ON DST SHORT TEST ERROR CODE1000-0146

That error code is in relation to the hard drive beginning to go bad, If it is still in warrenty call dell, if not and you have any data you need to try and retrieve taking it to a qualified shop that can put the drive into another machine or boot with a utility cd to try and get your files is recommended, either way you are going to have to get a new drive.

Dell latitude c600 primary hard drive not found

that means the storage system's MAIN drive, (the C: drive, the hard drive, the hard disk) is not working, OR, is not being seen by the computer. Try removing and reinserting the drive, or take it to a shop to have the drive tested. The c600 was usually very durable, and it is likely the PC itself is fine, and you just need a replacement hard drive. But the BAD news is, if your hard drive is toast, then so is the operating system, which means that would have to be reinstalled as well. the c600 usually came with Windows 2k, 98SE, or ME. If you are "tech challenged" like you say, your BEST option is take it to a local shop, and tell them the hard drive failed. MOST shops will charge about 30-50 bucks for a 40-80 gig hard drive, and charge about 100 bucks to reinstall Windows and drivers. AS LONG AS YOUR WINDOWS PRODUCT KEY IS ON YOUR MACHINE AND VISIBLE you wont have to purchase a registration. IF HOWEVER, your key is MISSING or unreadable (wear, scratches, etc) you will have to purchase a license from Microsoft, if that is the case, then go ahead and purchase a copy of XP have them install Windows XP and drivers for you. USUALLY, a pc shop will install purchased software for free.

My laptop dell latitude D620 is not starting any more.

If the rest of the lights are on and nothing is powering up it is the motherboard. It is hard to say exactly what happened.

The usb of my dell latitude c400 notebook is malfunctioning

Unfortunately, I have seen this many times. One of the major problems with the C400 model was the USB port failing. I have had many of them replaced under warranty, and I have repaired some. The USB port breaks loose from the mother board and stops working. It is possible to SOMETIMES disassemble the laptop enough to get to the port and re-solder the USB port connections. But is is a slow process for experienced people. And it does not work all of the time. i know that this is not the answer that you wanted.

Good luck with it.
