False reading of toner cart status

Phaser 7300 request reseat or replacement of a newly installed toner cart.

    New cartridge was installed and reseated several times. Tape and any other package material were removed. Of the 4 toner cart. I'm having problems with all, but the black one. All imaging units are OK.
    No problem with old cartridges.

    Part numbers are correct. By reseating and taping on cartridges I managed to print out a supply status page. In all cases the reorder date is for some date in the 1990s and even the 1970s well the install dates are correct in 2007 and earlier. Level of toner are all OK. Believe problem lies with incorrect reorder dates or toner status sensors.

    Does it do it with the old toner cartridge? Did you take the tape and package material off of the new cartridge? Let me know and I can help diagnose this.

Sounds to me like you actually have the wrong part number. There are more than one cartridge for the Xerox printers, They have different chips on them. One is for billable accounts, one or more than one for accounts that pay for prints. There also was as i remember a spring type clip they left off some cartridges.
So with what you have tried and the old cartridges work fine, strongly suspect bad carridges.

    Yep that very well may be. That's odd for sure. Since they cant be that old. Somwhow the chips are programed wrong.

I have a Xerox phaser 7300 that keeps telling me to install or reseat the black cartridge

It is slightly unusual for it to be the black toner cartridge (usually cyan or magenta) but this issue is quite common on the 7300. You can find a lot of information about this here.

The error reads "Install Supplies" and won't print. Just placed a new cartridge in printer

Go to the printer panel and make sure the drum and toner carts don't show empty. Try removing and reseating the drum and the toner carts. Also, see if it will print a supplies status page from the printer interface. You can also try to hold the cancel button for 5 seconds to bypass the error. Let me know if you need further instructions.

Phaser 2135 makes clicking noise on start up then says magenta toner missing reseat toner cycles to same problem each time you reseat the toner

Between the LED rasterizers (four of them, one for each of CMY & K), there are rockers with a small but powerful magnet. When the lid is closed, the magnet will touch the top of the toner cartridge, which in turn, has a magnet on a rod that goes up and down with the rollers when the toner is churned in the cartridge. If the toner magnet is not in the position it is supposed to be (you can check it's position with a hand held magnet), the sensor will falsely interpret that no cartridge is present. You may need to replace the toner cartridge, or if you have more time than money, empty the toner cartridge into a clean vessel, disassemble the cartridge, fix the magnet-on-a-wire assembly, reassemble the cartridge, and replace the toner from the holding vessel. Or, just buy a new cartridge.
On the other hand, I've noticed the rocker switches get sticky in lower temperatures (I keep my 2135 in the garage). Maybe a shot of WD40 on the rocker would help, but to do that, you'll need to remove the lid. It's not too hard, there's only about 9 screws, after removing the back panel (another 4 or 5 screws), After a few more screws around the toner sensor panel (a PCB), you disconnect some quick-disconnect switches, and then you can see the rockers (the actual switches are opto-electrical components on the PCB, you might clean them with alcohol, but they are discrete packages that can't be repaired).
This is a major flaw in the Xerox 2135 (probably persists in the 7300 series as well) and the OKI 9200/9300 series upon which the 2135 is based. There's way too much that can go wrong, but the killer is that nothing except the sensor is failing. Very frustrating!

I have a phaser 7300 that asks for a transfer unit about every 3 weeks. It prints good until it asks for unit and then it will not print until I install a new one. I am ready to install the 4th unit but...

I think you might have a Spring missing for the Waste Toner Full Sensor. The machine tolerates the sensor status for 2K pages and then shuts it down.

Truthfully, it is really hard to describe in a few sentences. It belongs in the frame wall under near where you have the white waste toner section of the Transfer Belt. This spring pushes a flag up that hits the Paper Entrance Sensor (yes, near the bypass tray)

The PN for the spring is 116-2050-00.

The "Reseat Toner Cartridge" message keeps appearing, if I open and close the lid the message goes away and it seems to print normally.

There is a firmware issue that causes that problem.
You can download it from the site and upgrade your machine. The instructions on doing that upgrade are also on the site.
Go to Then click Suport and Drivers, then enter 7300, then to drivers and downloads and scroll down to the firmware update.

We have two printers and both of them have the following error command when we print. Reseat or Install Magenta Cartridge. This command is repeated on other colours at random

Issue could be caused by a couple of things. Could be the Toner Sensor Actuator's, located in the top cover. Could be the toner Sensor Board, also located in the top cover. Could be the Engine Controller Board.

Phaser 73000 wants to reseat or replace a newly installed toner. When checked toner status is unknown.

Is the Toner OEM (new from xerox) or remanufactured? Make sure that the tab that you have to push down on the toner is firmly in the locked position. Reboot the machine and see if that fixes your problem. If it doesnt put the old carridge back in see if the error persists. If it doesnt then you could have a defective toner cartridge.

Xerox phaser 7300 toner cartridge problems

Sometimes on this machine as there is a lot of loose toner around it can cover over the sensors in the machine, what I would advise is to remove all the toner cartridges and check for the copper contacts on both the machine and under the imagining unit (which the toner is placed in). Once you have cleaned that away slowly close the lid and reboot the machine and it should return to normal. Its just toner getting caught up in the sensors. Follow the instructions below, when you remove the unit, lift it over your head to find the copper contacts and clean them, be careful not to spill toner everywhere. Good luck!

Reseating the imaging unit
    Remove the toner cartridge:
  1. Open the top cover.
    caution_image88x30.gif The imaging units are sensitive to light. Do not expose the imaging units to light any longer than necessary to remove it and cover it. Failure to follow these instructions may damage the imaging units.
  2. Identify the color of the toner cartridge to be replaced (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black).
  3. Move the orange lever on the toner cartridge to the right so that it unlocks.
  4. Lift on the back side of the toner cartridge first, then guide the cartridge out of the printer.
  5. Set the toner cartridge on paper to avoid any toner spilling.
    Reseat the imaging unit:
  6. Lift the imaging unit straight up out of the printer.
  7. Line up the guide pins with the printer's frame and lower the imaging unit back into the printer.
    Reinstall the toner cartridge:
  8. Install the toner cartridge by guiding the front onto the new imaging unit first then lowering the back.
  9. Move the orange lever on the toner cartridge to the left so it locks.
  10. Clean the LEDs with the supplied wipe.
  11. Close the top cover.
