Lets start with the basics. check it again if you already did.

Check the power cords and be sure they arent bad by swaping it with your monitor and testing power.

Make sure the power switch on the power suply in back is turned on. If it has a switch, some dont.

Make sure the power button in front isnt just bad.

Now, if you want, go to any computer store and ask for a power suply tester. They usually run about $13.

It has several testers for the mother board and other devices, they are usually rectangular and have LEDs that light up indicating it has power,

Test the power suply itself directly followed by the stystem board.

You will probably want to go to a real computer store, not best buy or some other idiot retailer, but a ma and pop, small bussiness store that has actual people who know what your talking about when you ask for POWER SUPLY Tester.

If they have one, get it, Ask if they can explain how to use it before you buy it.

Try this out and get back to me if no progress is made.
Good luck

When you werent using it, did it stay plugged in?

If so, try holding down the power button for 10 seconds and then try pressing it again, maybe its just stuck in pwer save or sleep mode.

If the external hard drive is hook up to the main drive you might have to disconnect the exteranl hard drive and try another way to hook them up together . you did something wrong when you installed the externall drive. try it . and see if the original hard drive boots up. if this works you will have to change the boot sequence to use the external drive.

it sounds like you might have to buy a new power supply . also check to make sure the little red switch by the plug that coonects to the pc itself is set for 110 volts if you live in the united states ok, you might have accidently switch it to the other setting wich is a higher voltage. also try to connect the cord directly to the out let itself making sure you plug the cord to the pc first. If all this fails you will need to buy a new power supply. I suggest you take the pc to a qualified repair shop if you feel the power supply is at fault. expect to pay out around 90.00 us dollars plus shop costs. If the pc is brand new take it back to the store you bought it at and exchange it. sorry nothing more comes to mind but the power supply.

My dell dimension 3000 pc has run out of memory space on the C-drive. How do I add more memory?

You can't directly add additional memory space to the C drive, but you can add additional hard drive and move the files from C drive to the additional drive. If there's enough space on D or E drive, you can move from C drive to the other drive. Note that your C drive includes your Desktop, My Documents files, My videos, My pictures, My Music etc.. So make sure you haven't saved extra files on you Desktop or My Documents. To free up some space, you can run DiskCleanup utility which is built-in with the Operating System. To do this, Right click on the C drive, Properties - Disk Cleanup... and then provide positive input, eg. yes or ok. good luck..

We are planning to use our Dell Dimension 3000 for security alone. A friend told us to get a terabyte hard drive to support the software and video recording. What type do we need to interface with our pc.

Any brand name external USB drive should be good. Just a suggestion...Staples has a Seagate 1TB drive for $69.99 this Friday from 6 - 10 AM. That is a good deal.

Seagate, Maxtor, or Western Digital all are reputable companies.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Adding old hard drive to new pc!

the seagate HHD (secondary drive) need to be on the same cable as the primary HHD. unless you haev SATA. then it is need to be connected to the second SATA connector on the mother board.
go to BIOS setup and make sure the BIOS know there are 2 HHD.
you should be good to go.

Using the External Hard Drive

The external hard drive has to be connected to the computer, then from the computer you have to connect a cable to the TV. New TV's have a vga cable, where you can connect the computer directly to the TV, but some might have older cables.
Here is a list:

I hope that helps..

Gateway series 300 with 4000783 moBo, no visual

Gateway are most likely wrong. These Gateway cp's usually have a motherboard failure which stops the cpu socket working, replacing the motherboard is a far cheaper option than buying a new pc, restore windows using my rstore disk which uses your registered version of XP. You could put the hdd in a dell computer, set the jumper omn the back to secondary master or slave of either the primary master ( C:\) or the secondary master. Then copy the files you wnt to an external source or the dell pc.
