Question about Keyspan (PS-4A) (PS4A) Print Server

1 Answer

PS-4A Server Utility finds the PS-4A but can't connect (Utility reports thath the server has been found, reports the ip address, and gives the status that it is attempting to connect but never does connect). Figured that the settings on the PS-4A were scrambled, did power reset and hard reset (both kinds - momentary and 3+ seconds) but situation unchanged. Both the Win2000 OS system and the PS-4A are plugged into the same router. The Server Utility did connect with the PS-4A in this connection configuration when it first came. Initial setup of the PS-4A was not completed. Win2000 OS went into an immediate shutdown during the initial setup. After this shutdown event the utility was only able to find the server but not connect (the situation as it is now). In an attempt to correct the situation and return to initial state (1) removed and re-installed the utility on the Window2000 OS and, (2) did the three modes of reset on the PS-4A. These actions had no effect on remedying the situation as far as I can determine. Thems all the facts, Anyone have a idea on how to fix other than the obvious "return the product"? Thanks for your help. Tom

Tom, Are you logged in as administrator? Have you checked firewall settings on the machine and the router? Permissions(if not admin)? Have you checked the print spool service or another needed service. Just some quick thoughts. Tim

Tip

Why can't you connect to the Internet?

First check your TCP/IP address - see my earlier tip on checking you are connected to a network. For most recent systems, (not Linux) open a command prompt window (type "cmd" in the RUN window from the start menu) and type ipconfig /all
you should see your network adapter name and IP address, a subnet mask (don't worry) and a default gateway, also a DNS server IP address. If ANY of these are missing, that's your problem, try repairing or resetting the network adapter. WRITE THEM DOWN. You may have more than one adapter, you need to identify which one is used for the Internet connection.
If they are all there, from the SAME window type "ping" followed by the IP address of your default gateway. If this fails, you have no connection to your internet router, find out why!
If this succeeds, type "ping" again, followed by the IP address of your DNS server. If this fails, type "tracert" and then the IP address of your DNS server. The FIRST address that will be reported is your default gateway; followed by your ISP address; if the only address you see is your default gateway, the link to your ISP  is down, give them  a call. If it succeeds, from the same window type "nslookup"
You will see a chevron prompt, type in the name of the site you want to go to, e.g google.com.
You should then see a reply from your DNS server, and an IP address for your required server. If not, then either your DNS server settings are wrong OR the server does not exist. It will be obvious which it is from the reply you receive. If the DNS settings are wrong, you can change them from the Control Panel, Network, Network adapter, Properties, TCP/IP v4 properties menu; try setting DNS server to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 and try again.

If you are encountering an 8114 or 5411 error or have "This content is unavailable" messages or locks on lessons, please follow the steps below to reset the license server to verify that the status enquiry is correct:

Please note: These steps will break the connection to the license server for any learners who are currently logged in to the program.
  1. Once LMTOOLS opens select the "Start/Stop/Read" tab
  2. Check the "Force Server Shutdown" box
  3. Click the "Stop Server" button (the status box at the bottom of the window should read "Stopping Server")
  4. Wait 10 seconds and then click the Start Server button (the status box should now read "Server Start Successful")
  5. Click the "ReRead License File" button (after a few moments the status box should report "Reread Server License File Completed)
  6. Switch to the "Server Status" tab and click "Edit" in the upper left, next to "File", and then "Clear Window". Then, click "Perform Status Enquiry" again to view the license status.

ZPS2102, ZPW1000, ZPS1000 :: Trouble shooting tips for finding the print server using the utility

supporting troubleshooting links
? A: Please check the connection link light.

Temporarily disable all firewalls on your system even the Windows XP firewall
(for instruction to disable XP firewall, please go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673 )

Power cycle the print sever by unplug the power at the back (10 second).
The print server default IP is 192.168.5.1
Set the computer which has the print server utility installed to have an IP of 192.168.5.2

(Test ping the print server / 192.168.5.1 --
If print server is respond to ping, using web browser with the address of 192.168.5.1 will also beable to configure the print server)

Run the utility/hit the refresh button to find the print server again.
The CD has two installation methods:
1. The Auto run will run the utility.
2. By manually install the program into your system. (Browse CD to the folder: manual installation.)
It is recommended to use the 2nd method and run the PSAdmin utility from the system's programs after the installation is completed.
If it still could not find the print server, direct connect your computer to the print server using cross over cable and run the utility again to find the print server.
When it finds the print server, change the print server IP(192.168.5.1) to a unique static IP your router can accept. Put the print server back to the network, change back your computer's IP accordingly and try ping the print server with the new IP or run the utility again.

For wireless print server, it is recommended to use Ad-hoc connection from a wireless computer to connect to the print server first. (follow the Quick Installation Guide booklet that came with the box on page 8)

Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found. i keep getting this massage when i try to brows the net

When you type any name, e.g, 'www.google.com', your computer "talks" to a DNS (Domain Name Server), which translates the string 'www.google.com' into at leaset one IP-address:

Addresses: 74.125.155.103, 74.125.155.106, 74.125.155.147, 74.125.155.104, 74.125.155.99, 74.125.155.105
Aliases: www.google.com

If your computer does not have a working Internet connection, it cannot "talk" to the DNS-server.

If you spell the name incorrectly, the DNS-server will report "cannot give you an IP-address".

Contact your Internet Service Provider, to trouble-shoot your Internet connection.

Or, check for a computer-virus on your computer, which could be blocking your attempts to "talk" to the DNS server.

First option is to forward ports where your friends can connect to. The second option is to put your computer in DMZ. These options can be found on the router settings.

Printer status offline

I just ran into the same problem. The computers on the network that were running XP were showing the printer as "Ready", but all of the computers running Vista were showing the printer as "Offline".

After trying a number of solutions that I found on other message boards, I accidentally discovered that the problem was an IP address conflict. It seems that the server changed the address on the printer, which didn't bother the XP machines but brought the Vista machines to their knees.

Press and hold the blue button (HP called it the "Go" button) for 5 seconds, which will print a configuration report. In the TCP/IP section you will see the IP address for the printer. Next, open the Printers window, right-click on the P2015 and click Properties. Click the Ports tab. Find the port that is checked and click the "Configure Port..." button. If the "Printer Name or IP Address" field differs from the IP address on the configuration report, change it to the one on the report. It took a few seconds after hitting OK for the computer and prrinter to link up again, but that solved the problem for me.

Cannot connect to AXIS 5600 print server

A Dlink's default IP range is 192.168.0.x, it would therefore hand out a address in that range. Since the router reports an IP of 10.43.14.125 I believe that it has been assigned a static IP Address. This is the manual.
https://www.axis.com/files/manuals/28049.pdf
You need to temporarily assign your computer an IP of 10.43.14.1
follow the instructions here
How to Assign Static IP Address in Windows 7 8 10 XP or Vista
Log into the printer server's webpage by opening your browser and going to 10.43.14.125
Turn on DHCP, save settings, reboot
Undo the changes you made to your computer. Reboot

I can not get two print servers to work on my network

I would suggest that you set a higher Ip address then 9-10 as it is possible that your router/switch is possibly using one of these for DHCP, I have one of these myself, I had to put mine a little uprange to prevent my router / switch from interfering with it.
