The packaging when I bought these said they could be used as headphones to playback via USB port on a computer etc. I cannot see how to configure my laptop to playback music files through these headphones.

I think you have a new device and you wanted to use it at first and the battery wasn't charged. The player has a built-in lithium-icon rechargeable battery. It is charged via USB connection. You are required to charge it when you use it for the first time. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge the battery. Connect the larger end of the USB cable to the USB interface of PC, and connect the other smaller end of the USB cable to the USB interface of this player. The device is connected to PC and being charged. For maximum performance, lithium-ion batteries need to be used often. If you don't use the device often, be sure to recharge the battery at least once per month. I hope your item will work fine after the battery is charged. Thanks. gylacz
Like most MP3 player with an inbuilt internal battery, your Slick 2gb mp3 music and video player will have an internal Li-Ion rechargeable battery that will be recharged via your USB Data cable while connected to an USB port on a PC/LAPTOP or USB charger.
what kind of headphones do you have??? some Mp3s cannot supply enough power to those big headphones out of the market right now... try to use a earbud or earphone first and if they are not working it means that the jack is defective
If you didn't use the ipod software download from itunes then the ipod shuffle doesn't recognize the music as playable. I tried to download straight from my ps3 and mine did the same thing. The blinking orange and green light indicate no recognized music.
