Hi, My sister has an Acer 4741z Laptop, and has windows 7 installed on it. It was working perfectly well for a month, and suddenly all the usb ports on the laptop stopped working. Tried checking the BIOS to see if USB is disabled... but Didnt find anything relevant there. What do you guys think I can do to see if it is working?

Hi,
I hope i can help resolve your problem for you.
this may be a problem relating to your system device driver files.
Try This:-
go to My Computer/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. at the bottom of the page you will see USB.
If you have any yellow symbols ( exclamation Marks ) then the driver has been corrupted, or installed incorrectly.
if you have a system restore disk. this may solve the problem for you. or recovery cd.
If you require further assistance, please ask.
Mike @ compurepair.

Well let me be the first to say I see you have skills. All of your troubleshooting is exactly by the book. The only thing I see that was not checked is the CMOS (BIOS) setup screen to make sure that the USB function is enabled there. Good luck and let me know how it goes, we have a couple of hundred years of experience at FixYa so keep me updated if you have any more problems.

Thanks. The Fn F7 idea did not work, the Enable/Disable toggle in Control Panel made no difference BUT the simple pressing of the TINY finger pointing next to the power button DID work. Duh!
Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure you
select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers you
that require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on your
laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -
