When I installed my dads Samsung 40 lcd 120 hz. I had to turn it all off and after 5 mins I turned on the cable and then 5 minutes later I turned o the tv.

the DVI input must be HDCP compatible in order for HDMI to work. It's a DRM encryption protocol. Condolences. Blame hollywood for it. The monitor model is too old to have had HDCP support built in to the DVI input.

try a DVI/digital cable on the HDMI inputs
